OT re advice about ISP
We have been with NTL and its predecessor for about 6 years but are going to
have to find another ISP as they cannot provide me with a decent broadband
service. (Long story, basically I lose the service every evening and they
can't sort out why - all sorts of theories but no resolution).
We are fed up with them being unable to resolve the issue and have decided
to have a BT phone line installed. Please can you recommend ISPs that you
are happy with?
Many thanks
Mary

I've been with them since the days of the 'BBC B'.
During an average year I'll loose the connection once or twice but only for an hour or so.
News server I'll loose perhaps 3 times a year but again only for a couple of hours.
And you get a free domain name so you can create as many e-mail addresses as you like.

Zen or Nildram - both top scorers in comparisons and you also keep at least
some of the dosh out of the hands of BT.
After you've got that sorted out, find yourself a decent alternative
telephone call carrier, such as Talk Talk - our last monthly bill for calls
was 47p - to keep your contribution to BT's coffers to an absolute minimum.

I've been with Nildram for about 18 months now and they are the best I've
ever used. Huge 50Gb a month allowance as well. Never ever lost the
connection.

Try ADSLguide www.adslguide.org.uk - they have a messageboard with
virtually every ISP operating in the UK http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ .
Take a quick look through and see what kind of issues people are
having. There's always going to be unhappy customers but it's good to
see how many of them there are and how their problems are being
handled. You'll often get good advice on how to fix things too.
For what it's worth I signed up to TalkTalk when they were offering
14.95 a month 1mb unlimited broadband if you signed up in March. You
had to take their phoneline at no extra cost too which gave me 30mins
free mobile calls a month and free evening & weekend landline calls
for a year. The downside to this is customer services were awful when
I had problems getting migrated, connecting to anything but google,
finding out where the free modem had gone......
All sorted now but you tend to get what you pay for. I was with Pipex
for a few years before, they were pretty excellent.
Good luck!

Re: OT re advice about ISP
Thanks for your suggestions folks - some of these I'd never heard of, but
I'll do some homework before we sign up to anything.
Cheers
