THE Western Mail today launches an exciting new competition for club golfers
in Wales which will give them the chance to win their way through to a
superb final at a top resort in Portugal.

All golfers have to do is submit their own scores from competitions played
at their own clubs and we will rank them against the performances of other
players from all over Wales to produce the winners.

Our new Western Mail Club Golfer Order of Merit tournament is open to all
club golfers with a valid handicap and brings the chance to win some great
spot prizes throughout the season as well as qualify for the fantastic
five-day grand final at Le Meridien Dona Filipa & San Lorenzo Golf Course in
Portugal in December.

Part of a national competition sponsored by Hertz, you can register your
entry now by visiting www.clubgolferorderofmerit.com and start submitting
scores from your individual, Stableford or strokeplay, home or away handicap
qualifying competitions played between May 1 and October 23, 2005.

The system awards points for each score you submit and calculates your
ranking position based on your four best current scores. You will be ranked
within one of two handicap divisions (up to 12, or 13 and above) and at
least two players from each division will qualify for the final.

For added interest, players will also be able to see themselves ranked with
other players in their clubs and within their counties. Tournament rules,

The Western Mail Club Golfer Order of Merit will conclude with a final at
the sumptuous Le Meridien Dona Filipa & San Lorenzo Golf Course in Portugal
from December 4-8.

Qualifiers will compete within a group of 40 finalists drawn from across the
UK.

The final will be a 36-hole stableford event, with the tournament sponsors
covering flights, four nights accommodation with breakfast, shared car
rental, welcome drinks party and prize presentation dinner.

Consistently ranked one of Europe's top ten courses, San Lorenzo is an
outstanding championship layout set in the world-famous Quinta do Lago
estate.
A marvellous location combined with great design makes San Lorenzo one of
the truly great golfing experiences. The semi-island greens of the 17th and
18th, in particular, will test your nerve to the last and provide a dramatic
finish to the Western Mail Club Golfer Order of Merit final.
