O/T Another one bites the dust
Just been announced that Index is closing down, 126 stores - 3200 jobs
going. Such a shame.

Since Christmas we have lost Pilot, Allders, Gadgetshop, Rover and now
Index. Very, very Scary

Bad for those employed, of course, but really these things are always happening - natural "turnover" of businesses that can't survive in a competitive environment - The same forces make prices fall.
There are winners and losers in the capitalist system.
Nothing to be scared of.

Ah,
That'll explain why there was no one serving anyone until 10am yesterday and
all the employees were in a miserable mood when they came out of a meeting
together.

Poor buggers. Been there, had that done on me. My last job was shipped out
to Indonesia.

Oh My Gosh Mike! We had never thought of it that way before. How
priveleged we are on this group to have a man of such obvious intellect
pointing these things out to us.

I have been wondering about "Iceland" stores as I had a letter stating the
home delivery dept was being closed down and my local store is having a
massive sale on virtually every item. Either they are doing a relaunch or in
trouble. Anyone here heard anything about Iceland?

They are converting more of their stores to convenience stores so your
store might be one these.

They abandoned their famous "Mum's gone to Iceland" slogan some time
ago in line with a change of company image.

Don't think thats it as other stores in the area also have sale signs in the
window.
Just looked on the website and it says there is a storewide sale, perhaps
they are just having a clearout of old stock. Maybe they are changing the
look of their stores all round.
