But we won't let that tarnish her big day, now will we Edith?

Here's hoping Charles and Camilla go on a lovely honeymoon and
decide to never come back.

They could start it with a tour of the United States, where they clearly
have plenty of fans. I am flabbergasted by the line-up for tomorrow
morning's TV for my timezone. Women's Entertainment and Lifetime Cable
channels are full of 'specials' too.

Three of the broadcast networks:

ABC (on Good Morning America 8-9am)
CBS (on The Early Show 7-9am)
NBC (Tonight on Dateline 8pm, Camilla's friends talk about the long
courtship) Saturday (on Today at 7-9 am)

Then the three major Cable News Programmes:

CNN 3am-11am (THREE AM!!)
Fox News Channel "The Wedding of Charles and Camilla" 7-11am
MSNBC 7am - Noon

I haven't checked the schedule for BBC America (Premium Cable), nor for
Public Broadcasting, which carries BBC News, but they did do live
coverage of the Queen Mum's funeral.

Jp who never watches these things but heard Charles's plane leave
Aberdeen airport for Paris, that September day.

I heard you were an expert on cheap air fares. Why not join us
for the boink? You can always go to the hills another weekend.
But there's only going to be one trans-Atlantic boink!

Hey! Wait a minute. Cumbria is full of hills! You've got no
excuse at all!

love to join you but there is the matter of work interfering with leisure as
usual. I'm glad my expertise on cheap fares was of use to someone.

SW Airlines had a $89 each way special recently which would have put me
within a mere few hours driving time of Johnnyland.

You probably were, but I was probably the only one to play Happy Birthday
for her in the streets of Cockermouth. Pity she wasn't there to hear it. One
or two people wondered who I was playing it for, and were slightly bemused
when I explained it was for a birthday girl on the other side of the
Atlantic, but I did promise....

Oh yes - I'd better add HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little nephew Jake, who shares
Tania's birthday, but being only 6 won't be reading this: who knows, though,
maybe one day he'll trawl the usenet archives and come across it by chance.

Thankyouverymuch, Johnny.

That's sweet of you.

Cards have turned out to be just a pain anyway. The wind has been kicking
it this afternoon and the cards I have received have ended up blown all over
the house several times since I have the windows wide open. I'm getting to
old to chase them.

Yup. Seems so. That's what fate will do for ya. I remember getting up at
four am for Charles's first wedding. I had a bit of a crush on him when I
was really young. Was curious about the girl he chose as "the one". She
turned out to be a very charming person. I didn't bother to tune in to
his second one.

Thanks for for the well wishes, Edith.

That would mean Scotland would be stuck with them. I have hopes of going

Well, thanks. Happy Birthday to Leon Jay from me as well. I have a
special new family member. She was four weeks old yesterday. My
granddaughter, Riley. She is too cute. I may be just a little prejudice.

Thanks, Al. Got your hidey hole prepared? Tornado Alley has expanded to
your neck of the woods. Be ready to duck if the weather channel is to be
believed. We are in the red too. I decided to celebrate my birthday this
evening. Listening to old ZZ Top and have been grilling ribs, burgers and
pork loin. Drinking some Chardonnay. If the twister makes it this far east
I'll grab a rib and the bottle before I make a dash for the hallway or
utility room.

Oh, you should! Wish I could!

Please pass along any good deals. My plans are to return to Cumbria next
fall. The best deal I found last trip was calling the airline directly. If
you have better resorces please pass them along.

I've been given a tip by my son's soccer coach, who is English, about
arriving early for my return flight and asking if I can change my flight
to New York. That would bring me back to JFK at no extra cost. I'd
specially like the approach along Long Island, which I've come to know
and love.

I would like to sell you & Al two a raffle ticket for a free flight with
4 nights in London! Only prob is that it's out of JFK.

My friend Regina in Germany has a birthday on the same day. Haven't seen

It's the fourth anniversary of my last cigarette, too. Thankyou Usenet

Oh, Jp., that's wonderful and today I met a friend in town who told me she
had a 33 year old lover, I mean, boyfriend. Isn't that wonderful. Things are
looking up in Norway and our postman has a tan already, too, tho' where he

Perhaps he's been to the tanning salon.

Good for your friend. I'm assuming that she's a little more than 33
herself. Ah, the memories :-)When my fella was 33, I also had a precious
bundle who liked to mess with my sleep and who would toddle to my bed
and poke her fingers in my face and shout "Mama's sleep?" at 5am. I was
physically mangled and mentally mashed and had started to replace "I"
and "me" with "Mummy". Oh what a waste !!!!

Hmm. Interesting. Our family are mostly from the beginning of the year so
it's Aquarians, Pisceans and the odd Capricorn for good measure. In fact, I
seem to collect Pisceans - my son, my man and my best friend all share the
same sign.

Both my sons, grandson and a friend who is like a daughter here as well.
Gets expensive, doesn't it? My best friend growing up and my husband are
both Libras. Interesting.

I get email offers from Continental and a weekly list of specials from SW
Airlines in addition MSN frequently has ads for cheap fares. IF I see
anything relevant I'll pass it on. SW Airlines has a partnering deal with
some airline flying across the pond out of Baltimore I need to explore that.

If you plan on doing any domestic vacations get on SW Airline's mailing
list. They had a special for anywhere in the country for $89 each way. We
could have had an international boink in Niagara Falls.

What's the best route for you to UK via Chicago or St.Louis? AA used to
have flights Chicago - Manchester and Chicago - Glasgow.

I went via Chicago to Mancester last May. American Airlines out of Tulsa.
It was the best price I could find at the time. I searched for months and
then called the airlines and AA matched Travelocity which was the cheapest
online price at the time. I'd go any route that can get me there safe and
cheap. Glasgow would be fine. I'd like the drive down.

I'll sign up for SW emails. We will be making frequent trips to Springfield
and St. Louis this spring and summer. With the gas prices I'd opt for the
$89 special for sure.

I've always wanted to see Niagara Falls! It could still happen.

Would appreciate anything you happen across that would help. Thanks.

The 18th..... Son Jamie is today - 13th; Helen, my youngest daughter is
cusped - 21st March; my dog - 1st April; gran - 9th; grandson - 10th; auntie
Xandre on the cusp - 21st... My eldest, Alison, was born 2 weeks prematurely
on the 15th March, so just missed out! Coincidently(?) Kai Hsia and I met on
the 6th April (and she's a Libra)!

My mum and sister, who are both Libran, share the same birthday. I think
it's the only time my dad ever forgot my mum's birthday, the day my little
sis was born!!

Birthdays are getting cheaper now, though. My kids are 19, 22 and 23 and
settle for an e-card and a quick drink; the dog isn't bothered; auntie
Xandre is the woman who has everything; gran doesn't want reminding; KH and
I occasionally recognise only our wedding anniversary, and so the baby gets
spoiled!

I stopped smoking on March 15th, 2003 after having cut down to just two a
day for the previous 6 years in an effort to stop... (the best thing to come
out of a heart attack; the second one taking care of the boozing!!) and yes,
smoke-free is good. My smokaholic nephew is staying with us at the moment
and even though I have relegated him to the bottom of the cul-de-sac to
partake I am starting to get frustrated at the smell of his clothes which
sort of leach into the walls and carpets....!!

I used to live about an hour's drive from Niagra Falls when I
was a child. We'd go there on the weekend just for something to
do. I'd recommend beautiful, cultural Niagra-on-the-Lake instead
of tacky Niagra Falls as a place to stay. It's a short drive to
the Falls from there along the scenic Niagra River Parkway.
There's quite a few 1812 battleground memorials along there too
commemorating Canada's victory over the USA. Lest you've
forgotten.

I tried to get Glasgow - I'd have much preferred that, but there was
nothing remotely affordable - Not even Iceland Air's specials, which
bring you via Helsinki! I think Delta fly to Manchester out of Atlanta.
There were folks from Cheshire, connecting from our flight from Tampa
Bay on New Year's Eve. One of our coaches flew back to New York via
Chicago - quite a way round.

OK.It's a Round Trip Air Fare for Two, JFK - London, England (that's
what it says folks) with a four night stay in London in 4 Star
accommodation, with half board (bed, buffet breakfast and buffet
dinner), West End Musical for 2 and a half day escorted tour of London.
To be drawn September 2005.

Ten bucks, but there's only 20,000 tickets in circulation.

Anyone else lurking on the Left Pond?

I'll email you.

Oh, thanks Tania. Your ticket will be winging its way to you by the next
collection. There is a misprint on the ticket and the year should read '05.

Wish I could say that the birthdays were getting cheaper. My kids are 17
(as of last Friday) and 26 (last Tuesday). The youngest still thinks he
should be spoiled along with the grandkids.

That's really cool that your mom and sister share a birthday. My aunt,
Barbara Ann, and cousin, her daughter Barbara Jean, share the same birthday.
Thought the name was a bit much even if they did share a birthday. That's
eccentric southern families for ya.

The boink will be the prefect time for a slightly belated birthday
celebration! I'll expect to see photos of you wearing a birthday hat having
fun . I would if I could!

Doubtful. My maternal grandparents probably thought the Beach Boys were
some slackers that hung around the beach at Mobile. Maybe the song was
named for Aunt Barabara. She's about the right age. ;-)

That shows you how messed up the airlines are. It's cheaper for me to fly
to Glasgow or Edinburgh than Manchester. It doesn't make sense. I am
seriously considering Edinburgh to start my next UK visit then drive down to
Cumbria. Would be especially nice if Ally can spare the time to show me
around.

I'm hoping we can make it for a belated birthday bash - not much on here. If
the venue's a bit closer than was planned we shall. I've been a member for
nearly 7 years and only recognise about 8 people by sight so I'm hoping to
increase my catalogue of 'faces to names'. Then again, I generally only
write to about four folk!! Ooops - make that five. I forgot Edwina....

I shall find a suitable birthday hat. Would you mind if I added some clothes
to that 'cos it's a bit mild for this time of year. It would make for a
better photo too!!

It would be ten times nicer than Manchester even without Ally. People
have said to me that Manchester's an expensive airport, but I tried
Teesside, and that was a joke - 30% more expensive!

Lots of hats - some placed with remarkable effect.... It's wooly jumper and
thermals weather today and I've got to go out. I'm sat here wrapped up warm
*with* the central heating on and that grey sky looks mighty unfriendly....

I had a very large and very cheap suitcase, which I bought specially for
my move from Aberdeen to New York. I secreted in it a bottle of French
Champers, given to me by a very dear friend, and intended to celebrate
my reuinion with Mr Pinny, after several months apart. It was packed in
with my clothes and wrapped in a large beach towel. I filled the case
according to the weight guidelines of my transatlantic carrier, Virgin
Atlantic. Of course, the only connecting flight was operated by BA, and
the checkout clerk complained that it was overweight for an internal
flight. I explained that I'd gone by Virgin Atlantic's rules and I
offered to pay excess, but she hummed and hawed and muttered, and told
me to put my credit card away.

Just as I was approaching the departure gate, I noticed that the snooty
bisom hadn't bothered to check me through to JFK and I ahd to go back
and start all over again. She didn't apologise, but told me I should
have asked specifically to be checked through, because I wasn't
exclusively BA. This actually contravenes the rules, but if you are
connecting to another international carrier from elsewhere in the UK,
and have no choice but to travel with BA, make sure your luggage isn't
going to be going round the carousel in Heathrow, while you are on a
long haul across the Atlantic or another ocean.

When I got to JFK, I spent a long time worrying and waiting for my
baggage, and when it arrived, the handle had dropped off completely,
but, to my delight, there were no obvious leaks and I couldn't smell the
champagne. The bottle remained intact until we bought our house here.
