Hmm. So the female's a Scottish osprey, and her mate is English. Now a
Scottish male has arrived on the scene. He was born in Scotland but they
dragged him off down to the midlands and now they're surprised he's on his
way back north again? Let's see now... if you dumped me in the middle of
Birmingham, would I stay there or would I be on the M6 north so fast you
wouldn't see my dust?
So the question is, really, will Bass Lake be a good enough substitute for
Boat of Garten or wherever he came from, and will he stay with his
compatriot or lose out to her somewhat tardy English mate?
This has all the makings of a good soap opera. Can't wait for the next
installment.

Yeah, it's been raining here too. Thunder in the afternoon. Dog cowering in

It blew up a storm last night here and the rain lashed. Today it's just
drizzling. My windows are filthy. I haven't cleaned them since I started the
long wait for the workmen, four years ago, well, almost.
My dog used to lay under the blankets shivering when it thundered. Nothing
would console the darling.
When we drove by Bassenthwaite lake on the low road last year I didn't know
about the Ospreys. We had docked that morning and were on our way to Keswick
with the band. Suddenly the van was in shadow. I looked up to see what had
happened and there was nothing there. Puzzled me for a while until I heard
about the Osprey. One must have swooped over us to land by the lake or stoop
to fish. Imagine having one so close and not see it.The thought just drives
me bananas. They must have had at least a meters wing span putting a shadow
over us like that and it only lasted seconds. Thankgawd it wasn't the devil
coming for those beer swamped lads in the back seat. We wouldn't have been
able to play with them in purgatory.

Bit bigger than that Edith:
http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/o/osprey/index.asp
I've not seen an Osprey in the UK only abroad, Florida I think. Must
go and visit the Keswick ones.
What I would like to see is this:

I've occasionally saw the radio tracking bods around here a few years
back but I've never seen the bird itself. Apparently one you don't
mistake for a Buzzard or Osprey.

WOW! Almost two meters wing span. That's fab. No wonder the van suddenly
darkened.
I've seen white headed eagles on/off the coast of Trondheim. (if that is
what they are called) black with white heads, or collars, can't remember.

He's the man who builds & maintains the dry stone walls (Dry-stane
