Any Wired Burglar Alarm Recommendations?
I'd really appreciate some advice on this: I need to get a burglar alarm
for my daughter's small mid-terrace house in the Nottingham area.
I'd rather get it done sooner rather than later, but I have no idea how much
a standard system should cost fitted by a security company or which makes
are worth avoiding or buying. I'm happy to install it myself - with an
electrician friend - so I'm very flexible about how it gets done.
I thought I'd give the wireless systems a miss, as I hear they can be prone
to false triggers from all the various RF signals floating about nowadays -
but if there are any wireless alarms that don't upset the neighbours, I'd
be very pleased to hear about them too.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/experiences.

If the OP is prepared to DIY. I like the Texecom systems (see www.texe.com).
For a system that meets BS 4737 requirements it should cost less than 150
at an electrical wholesalers for the parts for a 2/3 bed terraced house.

Many thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll go the DIY route with the
Texecom alarm - hadn't heard of them before, but if they're good enough to
win "Intruder Alarm Manufacturer of the Year 2004" - they'll do for me!
Really appreciate the help.

Well under 500 for a wired system - more like 250, bearing in mind there's
no need to alarm the upper floor at all unless there's a flat roof nearby.
Just fo the perimeter and a couple of the downstairs rooms, that's
sufficient. Make sure it's NACOSS.

Re: Any Wired Burglar Alarm Recommendations?
I had an alarm fitted by an alarm co engineer as a Homer. Works for a major
alarm/security company. He charged 300.
Fitted 2 keypads, 2 PIR's, 3 sets of door contacts and a window shock sensor
in a 3 bed end of terrace.
Its not the parts you pay your money for though, its the time taken to fit
it and do a decent job of hiding wires etc

Thanks for the sound advice Alex. I went for the Texecom Veritas system and
the parts came to around 150 - our sparks has fitted it - but we have yet
to commission it - not looking forward to that - the installation manual
isn't the most helpful for non-alarm pros :)
