WATER BASED GLOSS
Hi there,
Has anyone had any reasonable experience with the new water based gloss
paints?
I've tried B&Q's Everwhite gloss, used the correct undercoat and brushes
and still find that I can't achieve the sort of smooth, brush mark free
finish that I can get with traditional oil based gloss.
Phoned the B&Q helpline, about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Is it worth thinning the paint down with water.
Are Crown or Dulux waterbased glosses better? (or are all WBG paints crap
anyway?)
Tried using a small foam roller, but doesn't work too well on skirting
boards.
All 'top tips' gratefully received!

Re: WATER BASED GLOSS
I can't remember which one I've used, but I also failed to get a high gloss
finish. For what I was doing I didn't mind too much, and the convenience of a
water based paint was worth it. However, while I'm happy to use water based
undercoat/primers for most internal stuff, because they are so much easier to
work with, I tend to use oil based gloss for the finish.

Re: WATER BASED GLOSS
I have used several water based glosses, but have yet to find one that
provides more than a matt finish.

I used some in the past but it is not very flexible, as it dries very
quickly and right through whereas oil based paint skin dries but does not
completely and adjusts to the environment it in and does not tend to crack.I
have moved into a house that has a water based paint on a tongued and
grooved wall covering and when I turned on the central heating it cracked
when the shrank I ran my finger down it to push it so I could touch it up
with paint left by the previous owner and cut my finger. the paint had not
been on long. so I think its ideal on a stable surface but where there is
high seasonal movement so I don't think it suitable for exterior work.
