Best Scottish band
Idlewild have something essentially Scottish about their music which
is very unusual in this day and age. Franz Ferdinand are undoubtedly
crowd pleasers and although their music is good i can only help but
wonder how long they will be around for. Personally Idlewild are the
best Scottish band

Agreed idlewild sound like traditional scottish music but rock. Where as
Franzferdinand rock. I have to say "A mordern way of letting go" is one of
may favorite songs over time where as Franz Ferdinands "michael" is really
good and has found a slot in my playlist. I just hope that franz doesnt
become the new darkness, but i dont think they will, the darknes was just a
pisstake and became more boring with everysong they released. what do you
think ?

Re: Best Scottish band
You are only saying the Darkness are a piss take because you are old and
have seen it all before.

To the younger generation that didn't see Def Leppard, Rainbow, Guns'n'Roses
et al they are a cool new thing.

Rock regurgitates itself every 10 years or so for the new generation.

The Darkness just conform to the principle

Nonsense. I dont remember Rainbow etc but the Darkness are just pure cheesey
rubbish. Rainbow still sounds good. So does GnR, but the Darkness are
terrible. The problem is they think they're great and they aint.

Re: Best Scottish band
But that is the whole point, you were too young for the other bands, so sad
to say The Darkness are your generations band of that type.

It is not how good they are, it is the fact that they are out there with
their studded cod pieces, rocket firing guitars and flying tigers doing
their thing.

In another 6 or 7 years, I again will be saying to anyone who will listen,
'This modern music pish sounds like something from my teenage years!'

And the kids will again laugh.

I think you missed the point about The Darkness then...

I don't think they think they are great...
I don't think they are great...
But I think it's great that a band like The Darkness came out when it did.

Actually, if they got a real singer, they wouldn't be bad at all. But I
don't think that was the point...

I dont think so. Again you're making assumptions - that music "recycles
every ten years". The Darkness are the only band at the moment doing that
trash, it's not like there's been a sudden resurgeance of glam-rock cos
there hasnt.

Re: Best Scottish band
From experience, music does recycle, what was good 10 years ago will be
re-appreciated by people of today and they will go off and make music like
that\influenced by it.

New young bands have more credibility than stinky old bands like Saxon who
are doing the same thing

For the first while of hearing the Darkness, I thought it was either Boston
or some other similar band.

I don't think there was a point. Not in the way you seem to think.
