disabling veritas security system
Hello all

I need to completely disconnect a veritas 8 security system. the system
is wired such that if I turn the power in my house off the alarm goes
off (there must be a battery that powers the alarm). Because the power
is off I can't enter the code to turn if off !!

I need to do some electrical work in the house and I'd rather do it
with the electricty off :)

Does anyone know how to completely disable this type of alarm? I'd like
to totally unwire it from the mains if possible as we don't actually
ever switch the alarm on.

I've got the installation instructions but it's a bit too technical for
me.

Remove the battery.

You will need to disconnect the self contained battery in the outside bell
box .

On a veritas system you have either a small keypad with a main box located
elsewhere (usually in the loft or a cupboard) or a main box with the keypad
built in. The R8 is of the first type (with the R standing for remote).
Find your main box, remove the front cover and remove the fuse where the 230
volts mains enters the box at the bottom left. The outside bell box will
ring until its internal battery is flat (about 15 minutes) and then the
system is dead.
