He started his career in Aberdeen, mostly at Grampian Television.  When I 
was a nipper I used to do a paper round for the newsagent right beside their 
headquarters.

I remember quite vividly the morning I bumped into him while picking up my 
bag of papers.  He asked (completely out of the blue) if I'd like his 
autograph.

I told him to fuck off.

This may be an apocryphal tale, but there was a thing going round Aberdeen a 
couple of years later about his wife being admitted to hospital with a 
carrot trapped in her arse.

He's the North's John Leslie.
