Good residential areas?
I'm going to move from Germany to Scotland soon and was wondering which
are the good residential areas in Edinburgh.
In Glasgow it's a clean cut between east and west end, in Edinburgh
'good' and 'not-so-good' neighbourhoods seem to be all mixed up. Which
are the traditionally 'posh' areas, which are the new trendy and
upcoming places?
Thanks, Simon.

City center, I guess. Somewhere near the tourist attractions. Possibly
also somewhere on the coast, with views of the sea or the docks.
I guess the thrill of moving to a place that you have previously only
visited as a tourist is the chance to weave that holiday feeling into
your daily routine.

Thanks for the list. What does the "**" signify?
What about previously 'bad' areas which are running through the cycle of
gentrification - the up and coming, trendy places?
What about Granton, Portobello - I'm quite interested in living close to
the coast?
Is there a map somewhere on the web, where the area names actually
appear? I'm having problems locating some of the areas you have listed.

Portobello isn't bad.
www.streetfinder.co.uk has all the place names, it's very handy.

Keep away from areas of local authority housing and student lets.
What's your budget? Roughly?
