You are wasting your time posting this here because < uk.local.*>
news groups, all of them, have been from the very beginning and will
be to the very end safe play areas for all sorts of raging nutters,
social malcontents, control freaks and malevolent beings.
You may feel that they should go elsewhere but where? The asylums
are all closed. Every so often they stop taking their medication and
go off their fucking heads. What would you have of them? Standing in
their back yards at midnight howling to the full moon and frightening
the shit out of the neighbours into the bargain? Have them running
around shafting masons, suspected vampires, werewolves, communists,
socialists, conservatives and women with vaginal warts by the dozen?
OR harmlessly making utter cunts of themselves in a uk.local group?
Lets face it what is one other cunt amongst the many?? I know what I
prefer!! The uk.local hierarchy of newsgroups is a valuable safety
valve which helps to keep society a wee bit more safe.
You may disagree. I would be interested to hear your opinion and no
doubt would the rest of the group. Thanks in advance.
Go with God my friend....go with God...
through the hazardous pilgrimage of life.
Good and ill emanate from God.
We are all being tested my friend, all of us.
So take heart, you are not alone.

Hi Fred - please ignore the troll. Somebody who knows about Whitehaven will
pop up and reply any minute. Probably. Either that or Edith will start
asking you questions...

Hello Fred. Welcome. Did you ever go to Kells Tanner Hop? Did you know the
best dancer up there, Sadie Rason?

I was up at Kells recently to show my wife the views from the top. It
doesn't look much different to when I lived up that way in the mid '70s tho'
Whitehaven's changed its facade a touch. I didn't notice Marchon had
gone(?!) but I did notice from the St. Bees road that the roofs of Mirehouse
were not as white as they used to be from the anhydrite. My first job out of
college was Scientific Officer in the Research dept (Allbright and Wilson
back then).

How could I miss that!!?

Ah, Kells.... June Malkinson. That was her name. Gorgeous redhead!!! Helluva
hill to walk her back home from town! Happy days!

I'm glad nobody remembers my name. June Malkinson comes to mind but I just
can't place her.Corse she would have been much older than you, you being in
your late 30s. Was she your Nanny?

I've had a few happy times up there too, dancing sandwich to "When I lost my
baby, I almost lost my Mind."
It lasted 2 weeks, then I got my appendix out. The only thing I lost was my
appendix and my boyfriend. He nicked off with some other lass while I was in
hospital. It took me two weeks to forget it. Isn't it nice being 14 years
old. I knew his new girlfriend. Couldn't find a nicer lass. ;)

No. It was a Cunningham and a Vaughan. Both very good looking lads but
obviously not for me. My future turned out quite different. We were just
kids back in the 50's that went in all different directions. My dates never
lasted more than two weeks at a time and that was considered - going
steady - in my books...titter. If I knew then what I know now.

I bought nothing, but Erica was busy. She bought a belly dancer's belt,(
She has a collection of belts like some women collect shoes!) a
hand-knitted winter hat for her mother and some pickling onions, which are
now resplendant in their jars. Talking of pickling onions, which we prepare
every autumn, I love them when they are about 3 weeks old. The vinegar and
spices have just penetrated to the centres but they still taste of onions.
Pickled onion, cheddar cheese and a piece of Melton Mowbray pork pie -
sheer bliss!
Have a good day. We have to go shopping to the co-op for groceries, as we
have just been paid.

We are back and disappointed. We needed some more pickling vinegar but
could we get any? The Co-op - who are selling pickling onions- Summerfield
and Tesco - all have none. They are useless, our supermarkets. We have
three medium sized ones with limited stock ranges whereas one super sized
one would have probably stocked everything.
This afternoon we will have to go to Corby (About ten miles away) where
there is a large Asda. Wish us luck.
