Wagn and One sharing units?
In the last couple of weeks, I've gone to work (Wagn) and come back on
dingy One 317 3xx's that look like they've really been through the wars
inside and out. Then last week, I go in on a 'new' One liveried 317/6
(9.43 Hatfield to Kings Cross), and remembered just how much better
these are than the refurbished 317/1s!

Any idea on why Wagn has been borrowing so many trains from One?

It's particularly odd that these are the ones that have had One
branding inside (and in the case of the 317/6, outside too) rather than
the many old 317's that still go to/from Liverpool Street with old Wagn
posters inside!

AFAIAA One now encompasses WAGN in the greater anglia franchise, so they are

This probably corresponds with an increase in the number of dreadful
3173xx units I've had out of Liverpool Street in the last week.

As they share the same depot at Hornsey, unit swaps are clearly easy to
do. I presume it is something to do with the long awaited (but by press
reports, far from sufficient) refurbishment of these units. Two are
reported to be at Wabtec, Doncaster at the moment.

The WAGN name is now only used on the Great Northern half of WAGN which
will be refranchised as part of the new Thameslink/Great Northern
franchise.

The West Anglia half of WAGN was taken over by one, and merged with
Great Eastern and Anglia.

So the OP is right - there is some sharing going on between the WA part
of One, and the GN (still refered to as WAGN).

Confusing stuff!

I thought they had done all the Wagn 317/1's by now (I think July was
when the last one was supposed to be done)? They only had about 11 or
13 to do.

Or have they gone off to have the other bits added? Namely CCTV,
information screens and so on? Assuming these are being added (as was
suggested in the Wagn pre-franchise-bid-newsletter), I wonder why they
weren't done at the same time (and if the necessary wiring was done
during the refurb at least to save time and money).

And are the 365's getting CCTV? Else, what is that new box in the
luggage rack near the 1st Class section (but in standard class) secured
with what looks like bathroom sealant?!

Also, is it not true that many of One's 317's were originally used on
the WAGN Kings Cross routes, but displaced when WAGN obtained some more
365s?

The 'refreshed' 317/1s were a WAGN project financed by NatEx (£500m
IIRC - more like £500 looking at the results), but this 'refurb' at
Doncaster is financed by Angel Trains and doesn't promise to be much
better.

WAGN still has 9 x 317/1, however units (and Cambridge One Drivers) are
hired from One as required.

If you see a 317/6 on the GN it is hired.
