73003 With a wiring modification perhaps ?
The great SWT / CONNEX give away !
Its nice to see some heritage lines taking these on after all hauled
stock thats been through the works should last them a while even though
its air braked , most lines have a diesel or two to use !

Let me put your question back to you - what would you do with it, and
why do you think the GCR is odd ?

I would have based such a unit in a region / area where the unit would
traditionally have been viewed, as for why the GCR is odd, you are actually
misrepresenting what I said, i actually said odd choice of venue, meaning
the GCR never has been third rail and never will be so it seemed an odd
choice of place to place it, I live round the corner (literally) from the
GCR and think its a good preserved line, not the greatest but by no means
bad, and with the GCRs recent (last couple of years) comments regarding no
more modern traction it seems odd they would give track space to such a
piece of rolling stock, also of news lately in the local rag is that the new
build steam loco is to be housed on the GC
hope this answers your returned question

and sorry I think I sent this direct to you Nick before realising and
sending it here... damned reply and reply group buttons are way too close

Why deny those living in other parts of the country a SR train. Would
you have the GCR have only LNER steam ?
There are other SR EMU over the south of England that can be seen
there, inded one can still just about travel on them in TOC service.
The GCR as quasi-compatible motive power for a Cig.

No sorry, I meant odd location in response to your post, not odd GCR in
general.

But there are no third rail preserved lines - and IMHO are unlikely
ever will be - so this does not come into the equation. Wherever you
put a third rail EMU will almost certainly be on a non third rail line.
There is a further point that makes the GCR more relevant than some
other preserved lines.
Certain Cig units were actually deilvered from York to the SR via the
GC c.1965. Thus a Cig there is not unprecedented.
