HPI check - what's needed?
My Dad is wanting to buy a 2nd-hand car from a dealer. We have the reg
No, but currently no engine/chassis number, or V5 details.

If we do an HPI check with just the reg no [which is the only
'required' info on the HPI website] then does it still provide the
required safety? Will HPI let us know the corresponding engine/chassis
number so we can check it before handing any dosh over?

Anything else we should know/do? Not really an expert at this.

Ta for any tips.

The HPI check will guarantee the information for, i think its 20,000, if
you have all the details (V5, MOT etc). When you go for the HPI, you have up
to 30 days in order to input all the other details.

Did this with a car I purchased for the missus. All we had was the reg
number and mileage. Did the HPI check and with 10 days, entered all the
other info.

Thanks for that, tho can you clarify....

If we do the HPI check today on just the reg number, then buy the car,
and then provide the other details and still be covered?

Yes, IF you provide all details within the 30 days.

But what if he discovers that the VIN from HPI doesn't match? Then the
HPI will have been worthless.
