350s are go!
Given the apparent start of Class 350 units on the self-contained
Birmingham-Liverpool diagrams today, does this herald another potential "new
dawn" for Central services, given the freeing-up of further diesel units ?
Or just further unjustified optimism!?

It means that for the next few weeks they can use *We regret the
cancellation of the xx:xx from Liverpool to Birmingham due to teething
problems with our new trains"

Well, work out how many diesel units become free, and you'll soon have
your answer.

Class 350 units have also taken over the peak all-stations work on the
Walsall line from yesterday, not what they were really intended for.
Here is 350114 arriving to make the 0727 departure this morning.
http://tonyhunter2814.fotopic.net/p20439083.html
One of the 158/170s freed from the Liverpool diagrams is now on the
Walsall-Wellington.
I would think both these moves are freeing 150/323s for strengthening
other Centro services

Quelle surprise, CT can't keep units on diagram.

I'm tempted to open the book on when we'll see the first single dogbox
on a peak Brum-Northampton working.

Quelle surprise, CT can't keep units on diagram.

They are now diagrammed for the Walsall line - Central Trains even
issued a press release about it telling us they would be on there from
Monday. The biggest surprise was that they are!

Assuming 350s are simply AC variants of the 450s that SWT have
ordered, this strikes an odd note. SWT have got the 450s for the
all-stations suburban services, and have bought different,
higher-spec, class 444 trains for the long-distance express services.

Technically they are similar, yes. However they have different interiors -
the 350s have 2+2 seating, for example, so are more suited to
longer-distance services.

Actually, the SWT fleet can be divided into three basic types: express units
(159/170/442/444), outer suburban (450/458) and inner suburban (455).

So, new EMUs for a service that's doomed? There's CT for you...

OK, that's the confusion cleared up then. Still a little bit
disappointing they've gone for central doors rather than end doors,
given that the units are intended for regional express workings, but I
can think of plenty worse they could have done!

They were to an extent a solution looking for a problem, in that they
were a redirected order. The door layout is fairly suited to south
WCML commuter services, where at least some of them will end up, and
is comparable with the Turbostars they'll replace elsewhere.

Birmingham- Walsall doomed?

That's news to most of the world.

Methinks you're getting mixed up with the DMU operated Walsall -
Wolves - Wellington service...

Yes, I was, mainly because I was convinced one of the photos was at
Wolves (when it can't have been). Sorry for any confusion...
