Trains via Chilterns to France?
There's a website here that i remember from years ago detailing plans
to carry lorries on trains through the channel tunnel from places such
as Liverpool and Manchester via Gerrards Cross!

Could a service really work, and would it attract eurostar to run a few
trains up there as well? I'm sure there was once a suggestion to use E*
type trains to Manchester via this proposed route with london stations
at North Acton and Kensington Olympia. Would of course have to come
with full electrification.

You're thinking of the Central Railway scheme: see

Don't get me started! <g>

This has been discussed ad nauseam on uk.railway in the past. You might
want to do a bit of searching through Google Groups first:
