Southern Advertisment
I've just seen the Southern Railway advert on the Southern franchise of
ITV.

How many other companies are advertising on television now?

I've seen Virgin's advert which is really clever.

It was a tad cheesy, the bed was in the form of a song which contained
lyrics similar to "he's on the 8.15 to Croydon".
I'm sure someone who paid more attention than I will correct me there
(he says!).

But one of the main points of the advert was showing that Southern are
quicker than using the car to get into work.

Oh and the fact that he was able to buy a hot beverage on the train
from the on-board 'catering' trolly.

Virgin's is by far the best so far, although by comparison I think
Southern are much better as a railway...cue Henry.

GNER had a good TV advertising campaign when they lauched the GNER
Mallard and on board Internet. There were 3 different adverts, each
highlighting a different aspect on the on board service on the Mallards.
"GNER Mallard - Going Further" was the slogon.

They are available for download from their Website.

Assuming "work" is in London and takes place between something
approximating to 9am and 5pm, I rather suspect that walking would be
quicker than using the car to get into work.

I don't know enough about Southern, though I think VT are vastly
better than they were. I do like VT's advert, though - very well
done.

....nicked from Regional Railways! "Going further for the North West"

Does anyone remember the Regional Railways North West TV campaign,
featuring a cheesy "we'll get you there" song, Manchester Airport
station and lots of 158s?

I've noticed a lot of people commute to Brighton from Eastbourne and
stations from Hastings (coastway).

It's also much quicker than by car from the coast to Brighton in the
morning, and it's a well run service too.

I don't know whether this has always been the case (pre-privatisation)
but rather than run a direct train from Hastings/Eastbourne to Brighton
in the morning peak they encourage customers to use the London Victoria
train and change at Lewes, where a service (headcode 43) from Brighton
is run to Lewes and then back to Brighton.

It's a bit of a lengthy affair and the wait is usually about 5-6
minutes at Lewes before departure but it's a popular service (possibly
only due to it being the only service).

Whilst on the subject, has anybody any comments on the wireless
internet that has been introduced on Southern trains?

I've heard that it's successful on other railways, such as GNER.
