Yes... that happened on the old solenoid. I have yet to test the new one in the same way.

I have not yet checked the lights, however when I turn the ignition switch off and the engine continues to run the battery waring light comes on and stay on until I stall the engine.

Yes it stays running, or yes it stops???

The battery warning light will come on with the ignition off, and the engine 
running. It's because the alternator back feeds the warning lamp.
