377 fast run London brighton today
I'm sure more data will appear in time but today 11:00 London Bridge to
Brighton press/demo Southern/Bombardier special with 377472+377474
doing in 36 min 56 sec.

Alas I was not on board [not for want of trying] - and nor (Mr.H.Law)
did I have anything to do with it.

Previous fast timings have been :
8x319 319031+319033 16/04/1989 39 min 15 sec.
8Cig 7363+7364 16/07/1983 circa.41.5 min

Todays run was done with TPWS and its slowing effect, at least on
approaches to terminii.

Apparently a test run with 377s took place 01:55 LB Brighton yesterday
with the same two 377s doing it in 37 min 51 sec.

It was a great run , Just back from the free bar at the Dome in Brighton.
You could tell from the acceleration away from LB that they were going for
it

Yeah, but in 1952 the Brighton Belle did it in four minutes.

Long time since I seen it - but the 1983 re-make (which was 3.5
minutes) was from London Bridge, as were these 377 times.

If the 1983 re-make replicated the 1952 version and also use LB, it was
not the Brighton Belle, as that ran from Victoria.

Were max current restrictions relaxed for it? I presume the
signallers were "advised" to give it greens all the way?

What average speed does that represent?

How many "approaches to termini" are there on a run from London Bridge
to Brighton?

AFAIK this one was filmed as well - so maybe the 2005 run with 377s will do
it in 3mins 55 secs!

Not being a techie so excuse the terminology, Some of the points on the
route were pinned to allow the line speed to be raised to 100 mph, The units
were tweaked to allow more current to be drawn and i know that we came to
quite a sharp stop at Brighton short of the stops.

This image shows the response in our carriage that we had reached 100 mph

Top marks to Southern for arranging a good day

Sounds like a great run.

For the record, the 1983 run was 41 minutes 38 seconds.
