Delays: Tickets accepted by other TOCs
Yesterday, services out of Kings Cross were a bit of a disaster. As
seems to be common, lightning hit the ECML at New Barnet (I think).
Although Wagn didn't state it on their website or the journey check
service, and neither did I hear anything on the tannoys, an enquiry
with Thameslink confirmed they would carry Wagn passengers. I guess One
must have too, for anyone heading to Cambridge.
We shot off to St Albans and took a bus to Hatfield. A few other people
had done the same, but the bus company wouldn't carry them free, saying
train problems had nothing to do with them. Now, we've always paid for
the bus (£2) or a taxi, and I never even thought about doing otherwise
until then!
So what is a TOC obliged to do when services aren't running?
In THIS situation the trains were running but with serious delays,
cancellations and overcrowding. Yet, if no trains were running at all
then what is supposed to happen? Do we have to wait for them to get a
bus replacement in operation, or should regional bus companies carry
people free of charge (if they've got a valid ticket for the original
journey)?
