Whats the best deal broadband
Hi,
Ive just come to the end of my min 12 month contract with Wanadoo. Im
paying 17.99 per month at present for a 1mb connection. I think that
there is a download limit on it but Wanaddo do not enforce it?
Any better deals about or should I just ring them up and ask them what
they can offer if I stay with them for another 12 months.

I'm with Plusnet (http://www.plus.net/residential/) and have found them to
be perfectly reliable, I always have a very fast download speed, and the
initial set-up was very quick and efficient.
Depending on what you need, they do the Broadband Plus package for
14.99/month, unlimited downloads BUT it is slowed down for downloading p2p
and binary newsgroups.
Next is a pay as you go option, for 14.99/month 1 gig, plus 1 for each
additional 1gig you use. This is almost entirely unlimited in terms of
speed, personally I have had great download speeds on this package even at
peak times.
Finally their Premier product is 21.99/month for unlimited downloads.
Basically unless you're a really keen mp3/movie downloader then their Plus
package is really good value for money at 14.99/month.
Hope this helps?
If you did decide to go with Plusnet, if you could refer my username
(skintnminted) I'd get a few pence off my next bill.

The word "cap" or "limited" is now replaced by constantly variable TERMS &
CONDITIONS and in particular two new phrses -
Acceptable user policy
Fair usage policy
No ISP will state clearly what they consist of as they change according to
how they feel, and they do not want you to be able to make them stick to a
contract. If they say you have downloaded too much then that's it. You
signed and agreed to the terms that they would not define clearly - which is
actually illegl under The Unfair Contract Terms Act!
It's like when BT offered me an unlimited service, but later said it was
limited, but couldn't tell me to what !
It's all in the terms and conditions of your contract, and cleverly worded.

That's your punishment for top-posting.
The upgrades are rolling out between September 2005 & January 2006. 512k
will become 2meg, 1 meg will become 4 and 2 meg will become 10 with the
current 4 meg service being upgraded to 10 and the price dropped to 35.

Does anybody know if NTL are going to follow suit? NTL do tend to follow in
telewests footsteps, possibley because they are essentiall the same company.

Looks in interesting set of account options. As there's no modem
included in the offers, what's the view on a good source of
router/modems/filters for the hardware?

Are you sure aboutthe free regrade - I thought there was a fee.
Also note that if you leave before 12 months the activation cost (50)
suddenly is not waived after all.

For details on the migration to F2S
http://www.freedom2surf.com/adsl/homeuser.php?pcat=m
It also states:
Once you have migrated to our network we will upgrade the ADSL line

I ve been a very happy F2s user for the past 3.5 years and would recommend
them. Very fast service, no ports blocked or throttled, when you call you
get through to a real person that knows what they are talking about.
The only downside with them is if you need to contact them out of office
hours or at weekends.

If you're switching from dialup, is it best to buy your own modem and what
other equipment do you need to buy? What are the minium connection costs
please - eg Plusnet or Metronet?
Thanks - I'm very confused.

Most ISPs offer free connection and free modem. But if you have to buy a
modem the Thomson Speedtouch 330 external USB modem is very good and can be
bought for about 30 including delivery on the web, and includes two phone
line filters. Try
http://www.nickknows.com/description.php?id=517&category=87. They can be a
bit fiddly to set up if you have several devices plugged into the phone
socket including the broadband modem. I don't know anything about Plusnet or
Metronet.
These sites might clear the confusion.

But the 9.99 is only available at certain LLU exchanges, mostly big cities
at the moment. Definitely worth checking if your exchange is one of these
though first as it can save you a lot.

Orange mobile are offering new (and renewing) contract customers up to
2Mbps Wanadoo broadband for 9.99 per month.
www.e7even.com offer 512Mbps at 120 for twelve months paid upfront,
they frequently have a 'special offer' of 1Mbps at the same price.50 connection
or free if paid two years in advance. They claim to monitor file downloads for
copyright infringement, so best avoided if you use P2P see -
www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=17753&page=1&pp=15
www.euro1net.com (appears to be the same company, although I understand
they claim to have no connection) charge similar prices to E7even but have a
different commission system.
There's also an ISP (well book publisher actually) offering 2Mbps adsl for 9.98
with 2 Gig cap subject to signing up to their telephone service, however they are
difficult to cancel, unreliable and change their contract without informing customers.
