Hyundai Getz - opinions?
Any opinions/gotchas on the Hyundai Getz? I've driven a couple of
different models recently (the 1.3 CDX and the 1.4 GSX) and was very
impressed.

Different model, but i`ve had an Accent (bought new) since December 1998
(IIRC) - mine has terrible trouble clearing condensation, but apart from
replacing the window winder mech (drivers side) its never skipped a
beat. I can see a couple of small rust spots starting to form now - one
around the top seal on the drivers side door, another inside the
passenger door where the rear side windows meet the metalwork.

The plastics are a bit cheap and nasty, the seat fabric on mine is about
as tough as 10 denier tights :-}, but if you can live with that, i`d
certainly consider another.

Mine`s been shunted offside rear by a HGV (1), and backed into a post
(2), and apart from really shitty repair work (1) a Hyundai dealer, (2)
Williams BMW in Liverpool, its still going.

Residuals are low I believe, my S reg will probably be lucky to get £700
at a dealer given its accident history, but it goes.

Slowly.

But it goes :-p

I had to get a retest on an MOT once (dumbass didn`t realise one tyre
was pushing its luck), and the brake force distribution was borderline
on one test, but a service / brake bleed seemed to resolve that.

I'm not suggesting you've this daft, but I'm amazed at how often you see
Astras and Corsas in particular all steamed up 'cos they've got the air
intake set to recycle.

Problem with the car, or the kind of person that drives Ashtrays and
Coarsers?

Pilot error brought on by complete failure to examine the controls and
wonder what the symbols mean. They're not even obscure symbols - just
that the user's don't read 'em.

If you make something idiot-proof the world just invents a better idiot.

LOL no, I can honestly admit i`m not (quite) that dumb :-}

....tried driving home from Alton Towers one day, 5 of us in the car,
pi$$ing down rain, we were all soaked. Car was virtually undrivable due
to its complete inability to keep the windows clear, with the blower on
full blast and a chamois in constant use !

I believe it's the "the more lights on the better" mentality.

Hence fog lamps are left on, demisters, air conditioning and air
recirculation.

Dunno about your particular car but usually it's under the bonnet, at
the top of the bulkhead just below the wipers. On my car simply removing
it cured ALL my condensation problems, obviously because no fresh air
was entering the cabin.

It's supposed to be changed every 24,000 miles but unless you're
asthmatic or drive in very polluted/dusty air simply remove it.

Cheers - sounds almost foolproof, so i`ll have to prove i`m a better
fool than it was designed to be used by :-}
