A Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 7 would probably get my vote for best LCD
TV, although it's a 32 incher so might be larger than you are looking
for.

Bang & Olufsen is from Denmark :-) Very stylish, but expensive for my
pocket. I saw a program where B&O tested their TV to destruction;
impacts, drops, freezing - the lot.

Sony is another good brand name IMO.

Dunno if BEST is something you can quantify as a whole in electronics
consumables. However for some extremely good sets look at Loewe who's pic
AND sound normally are awesome. The sound is easily the best of any TV on
the market .... you just need to take a listen.

Others to consider would be Toshiba for their CRT range, Philips for their
Pixel plus technology and I would say Sony for their Trinitron tube...
although only this week I saw a Sony and a JVC side by side and thought the
JVC marginally out perfomed the Sony.

Theirs so many good TV's out there by so many manufacturers it's difficult
to peg a specific brand and make down you just really need to go out and do
some research with your eyes and ears.

I have a Philips pixel plus 30 inch LCD tv. It's excellent, and has mega
amounts of inputs.

mainly by people who have already purchased them. Helped me out loads when
i got my LCD

For CRT, without a doubt Sony or Panasonic, if you go "higher end" than
that, you start wandering in B&O and Lowe country, where rebadges are
common, becuase of the small quantities they sell (at over-inflated
prices).

For LCD, stick with a manfactuer that actually has panel manufacturing
facilities, Sony, Philips, Matsushita (Panasonic).

Except you miss out the exceedingly good Toshiba that I mentioned.

I would say that a Loewe TV is much more than a rebadge. The sound for
starters gives this way. Easily blowing any other TV 60,000 miles away. It
is that good.

It has component i/p's something that is hard to find on a Philips. Theres
also expansion for further equipment should you need it.

Sure, a rebadge in that the chasis and tube are rebadged, but the case
(inc speakers), R/C and other periphial components are different.
Unfortunatly, there are always people that will be convinced their
Loewe/B&0/OtherHighEnd set is supiorer to other sets, purely because they
spent the extra money and need to justify it to themselves.

Yep, Toshiba make decent LCD sets, but I woudn't touch their CRTs with a
bargepole.
