OT: Aldi 8in1 remote problem
Just bought one of those Tevion 8in1 remotes and have decided to get the
keys to learn. I have gone through the learning process with the keys, but
how the hell do I get out of the learning mode now I've set the keys?
All is does is sit there saying "select key", if I press exit, or menue etc
it then says "waiting", because after all it is in learning mode and waiting
for a command from another remote!!!
So, anyone know how to get out of learning mode once you have finished
teaching it?
I'm bloody baffled here.

Is it this one?
http://www.akustik-perfekt.de/Daten/manual8in1remotecontrol.pdf
If so, it says:
For programming you proceed as follows:
1. "SETUP '' key for approx.. 3 sec. keeps printed, until the LED after
short flash durably lights up. (with short manipulation of the =3FSETUP
key'' you have key the SHIFTS function activated)
2. "Setup" key release.
3. If you press briefly the key for the desired mode (TV, VCR, DVD,
DSAT, CD, CBL, AUX sat).
4. The key LEARN press.
5. Press now the key at that universal remote maintenance, those with
the appropriate function to be occupied be LED shine durably on).
6. Hold grope now for your original remote maintenance were enough in
such a way pressed, until the LED expires to that universal remote
maintenance once (each false programming is indicated through to flash
to the LED)
7. Repeat the steps 5 and 6 to all functions are programmed.
8. Terminate they programming through press the SETUP key.
I guess the last step is the important one...
Wonderful English, eh? I may pick one of these up, as I fancy a bit of
"hold grope" later ;-)

Just press one of the top 8 buttons to select a device to control!

Unfortunately I think that's a limitation of the unit, rather than it
not remembering. It says in the manual it can not replicate all signals
and that's been experience. I've been able to program my AV amp, DVD etc
- using the method above. But other buttons on other remotes refuse to
be learnt, despite declaring "success".
It sounds to be a common problem here

Oh well. Looks like tha's going back tomorrow then. Pointless having a
"learning remote" if it isn't going to learn anything :(

Just press the device key of the one you are progging... ie SAT - HOLD
set, do the learning thing, pressing the key you want the function ON, then
the key on the original remote... repeat as neccessary.... when done press
SAT again to exit learning.... it DOES work !

Um. no it doesn't. I spent well over an hour doing exactly that, and once I
pressed Sat button to exit learning, the learned buttons did not do as they
were supposed to.
Still, what can you expect for a fiver. You pays ya money... :D

The fiver is irrelevant... it does work ! So unless you have a faulty one,
you must be doing something wrong.... which I doubt, as its dead easy !
The learning requires a photodiode, which you can see through the red panel,
in the right light ! perhaps this is missing/disconnected.... have you
managed to prog ANY key ?
if not, id say it was faulty... try one key at a time, instead of a batch -
you should see "success" on the LCD when its learned a code, or "fail" when
there's a problem... you can have the donor remote too close I found, about
a foot seems most reliable on our two remotes.

Don't suppose it includes JP1 support does it? The usual way is a 6 pin
header under the battery.
I had a 1 One4All audio zapper which as supplied would only support
audio devices. Using JP1 it could be completely reprogrammed to handle
anything including a sky digibox.
Info at: http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/
If it does support JP1 I'll try and get one myself...

Did that to, I just moved the rremotes slightly apart to get success.

Took the remote back to Aldi today and blokey said they have had alot of
them returned. Why? Because they won't learn codes for digiboxes. I knew it
wasn't me ;)
Oh well.

Sounds like the digibox remote produces oddball codes then, shame coz its a
banging remote, kicks my one for all into touch - and that was 30 !

I had a few keys off remotes which it wouldn't learn, managed to
download some (but not all) of them to a PDA device and beam them
across. In the end I am satisfactied with the results, YMMV.

Some remotes have trouble learning some protocols but can be programmed
with new device codes manually (using JP1) and work fine.
Anyway to answer my own question, I examined one of the controls and
there's no JP1 interface in the usual place (under the battery holder).
There may be some pads or a socket inside but it would have aroused
suspicions if I'd pulled one to bits in the shop :-)
Pity because it otherwise looks a bargain for the price.
Steve.
