Carpet right Lincoln
I bought a carpet from carpetright on Triton Rd Lincoln over a week ago and
paid cash.
When I got home I booked a carpet fitter to come today at 3pm to fit it.
When I went to collect the carpet I was told that they had sold it !!!!
They are NOT prepared to do anything about it...I was told "thats what we
do"
Imagine if you bought a car and when you went to collect it was told "we
have sold it to someone else "
The room was already decorated over the last few days to match this
particular carpet and the room leading into it was already done with the
same carpet too.
I contacted customer services at head office and was told " nothing we can
do its company policy"..insinuating "you've got your money back so whats the
problem".
They seem to think that if they just give you a refund (after they have
earned interest on your money) that the situation is over, meanwhile, I have
young children in the house and very sharp carpet grippers all around the
room for them to play with.
When I explained to the carpet fitter his first question was "is it carpet
right"? that says something to me
So people be aware that just because you pay for something from this company
it really doesn't mean you are going to get it and if you don't they really
couldn't care less about the situation you are left in, give it some thought
and choose a REPUTABLE company even if it costs you a few pence more.

If you have incurred costs you could sue them through the small claims
court.

How did you pay for the goods? If you had already paid the carpet was your
property and they have no right to sell it as it did not belong to them. Is
the carpet unique or can the same be obtained elsewhere.

The problem is they breached a contract by selling something /they no
longer owned/, hence criminal proceedings may also apply here for theft,
fraud and obtaining money by deception.

Yes, but not only that. He can claim cost of inconvenience, wasted time
and if the carpet was a reduced offer of higher value, then he can claim
the full price for a replacement; the same as if e.g. someone had destroyed
his carpet..

I suspect they just failed to put a sold sign on it. Or they did not cut
the OP's length off the roll immediately and ran out.
CR is a chain with mostly the same stock - does another store not have the
same carpet?
