Hst 2+9 to Aberdeen
I recently travelled on a GNER HST from London to Aberdeen. At
Inverkeithing I got off the train to unload a suitcase for an old lady and
was surprised to see that the train was too long for the platform. As a
2+9 HST has only been introduced in the past few years I dont think they
can have grandfather rights to call at the station. Do they have Selective
door locking to only allow doors adjacent to the platform to open?

Nope.
When they first introduced 9 coach sets, I've mistakenly tried to get
off at Inverkeithing from the very rear carriage, and ended up having
to walk along the ballast and up the platform ramp.
No big deal, but I can't imagine someone with piles of luggage doing
the same.
I've also wondered what happens if luggage/cycles are stored in either
PC for a station where it trails off the end. At Inverkeithing the rear
PC sits underneath the overbridge, and IIRC the front PC is also off
the ramp.

As I understand it they do because the rights relate to the type of
train.

I believe so as well - especially as HSTs are considered LHCS so can
be operated in different formations.

I was on an MML HST that was terminated at West Hampstead a couple of
weeks ago (due to signal failure at Kentish Town). It had at one
carriage (plus the rear power car) hanging off the north end of the
platform.
