Northern Unit Shortages
Is there any particular reason why virtually every weekday morning Northern
Trains seem to have to either cancell or curtail services due to Unit
Shortages, is this just a problem Northern have or do other Train operators
have this problem.
Thanks

Northern (Western) have had a serious problem ever since 1998, when
the service was increased without enough units or staff being
available. A reversion to the pre-1998 timetable would be a good way
of reversing this - but I bet that won't be the target of the cuts...

One have had a similar problem with their InterCity and Local fleets
since the start of the new timetable.
The IC sets just aren't in a condition good enough to be used, and
they've had problems with the local fleet since they released the
"spare" units to Arriva TW - the same units being the ones that are (and
were) needed

On the east side of the Pennines Northern are having some serious problems
with reliability of its unit fleet.
In the week starting 21st August the Northeast had 21 failures in traffic,
this compares to ARRIVA Trains Northern who had 22 failures in traffic for
August 2004.
Why? I dont know.
