ISTR she is his greatgranddaughter or gg granddaughter. Her biography
on
<http://www.vb-h.net/Biography.htm>
only goes as far back as her grandfather Lionel but if someone can
find the relevant copy of "Who Was Who" they might find the man
mentioned along with his children ?

That seems a bit unfair, Tony. It's entirely up to you whose posts you
read and whose you ignore, but "I think not" has been posting for quite
a few months now, and keeping entirely to the rules and spirit of our
Charter, as far as I can tell.

Sadly those of us who have posted/lurked in here a while know that TP has a
"talent" for extremely terse, gnomic, unhelpful postings; if anyone asks for
clarification or elaboration of one his terse postings, he clams up.
At least he hasn't implied that I Think Not displays signs of Asperger's
Syndrome (a mild form of autism) as he did to me a couple of months ago ;-)

A real silly question what is the GCR directors first name?
Googling brings up a lot about Vicky and the loco 62660, but not much
about the man him self.

Strictly, the name of the loco is Butler-Henderson. Without the hyphen,
one might get the impression it was named after someone's manservant

Then it is *not remotely* unfair. Subscribing to this newsgroup
without judicious use of a kill file would be self-inflicted
purgatory, and I do not get any pleasure from pain.

As none of the references I looked at called him anything else it was
beginning to look like either "Butler" was Mr Henderson's first name
or he had done an Inspector Morse and kept his first name well-hidden
from view.

It turns out in:
<http://cybrary.uwinnipeg.ca/people/dobson/genealogy/famous/Faringdon.html>
(and other references) that he was actually Alexander Henderson aka
1st Lord Faringdon. The "Butler" only seems to come up in definite
references to the locomotive. His entry in the 1881 census doesn't
feature any middle name or initial.
Still no connection found to young Vicki although there appears to
have been an Eric B-H in 1935 who was a director of:-
Buenos Ayres Great Southern Railway
Buenos Ayres Western Railway
(from

Ah, is that the same one after whom an A4 was named?

According to Who's Who 1935, Eric was the 6th son of Alexander Henderson,
Lord Faringdon. Married Sylvia Isabelle Butler Massey, daughter of Baron
Clarina. His eldest brother, the 2nd Lord Faringdon is Alexander Gavin
Henderson. Eric has a second entry as just Eric B B Henderson, so it looks
as though he adopted one of his wife's names on marriage.

Thanks for all your replies. Even though Tony Polson says there is a
connection, but as he's unwilling to enlighten us. I seem to concur
with you that there is in fact no conection other than a impressive
surname :-)

I'm coming into this convo rather late, but I am certain there is a definite
connection (great grandfather or somesuch) as I remember reading, I think in
Steam Railway back in 1992, or whenever it was that 62660 was relaunched in
Black for its last couple of days, about a 20 Year old Victoria Butler
Henderson doing the rededication. I think thats right, since I'm not old
enough to have read about it in 1982, and a 10 year old VBH doing it,
although it may have been in one of the many mags I have browsed in Model
Club libraries since.
I could be wrong of course......

Thats all you will ever get from him.
He makes a statement, then will not back it up with any facts.
Read the many threads about the Gerrards Cross tunnel collapse. He says
he knows exactly what caused it, and dismissed the later proven true
speculation about what caused the collapse, and of course, he couldnt
back up his 'facts', as he was being paid by someone to inspect it, and
he couldnt 'reveal' what he saw.
He has been trolling the photo groups for years, dismisiing many peoples
pics, but strangely, he has never shown any of his pics.

That's not quite true, I remember Tony posting one picture on Usenet group
alt.binaries.pictures.rail a couple of years back and he *may* have posted a
set of pictures from some preserved railways more recently - I think!

Let me guess: it was a photo of one anonymous loco headlight with no other
info - enough to tantalise but bugger-all use to man nor beast! And if
anyone asked "which loco is it?" he'd respond "I could tell you - but I'm
not going to. You are the weakest poster. Killfile and goodbye" ;-)
I feel that I can take the piss very gently like this after he accused me of
having Aspergers!
