SOR less than SVR?
Why does a Cambridge-Stansted Airport Standard Open Return (4.70) cost
less than a Saver Return (8.80)?

Interesting...
CDR 7.00 CDS 6.90
SOR 7.10 SOR 7.00
SVR .13.30
(without railcard discount - I put in railcard initially and was given
both 7.10 and 4.70 for SOR - took me a while to work out it was just
the pre-10am minimum fare rule kicking in!)

Return 10p more than single, and 'SOR' 10p more than CDR: this sort of
structure seems more in keeping with a Standard Day fare.

Compare to Cambridge to Bishops Stortford:
CDR 7.10
SDR 7.30

There the SDR is indeed in the same position in the overall structure.

I think they've decided to offer an Open Single/Return fare for the
airport, but have replaced the Standard Day fare with the Open fare
rather than set a separate fare for it.

But if the Saver costs more, it seems a bit pointless offering it as
well. (perhaps the Saver is set by a different TOC? Again it's
probably only offered over such a short distance because of the
airport).

A Cambridge ticket office clerk says this was due to an advertising
error, and that the railways must now honor the mistakenly advertised fare.

Until the next fares round, anyway.
