Don't listen to UKHierarchy. This is an obvious misdescription, reject the
laptop, or get it changed to a 2.2GHz version.

They have to provide you with the same spec you asked for. You could try
for the next spec up to compensate for their screw up.

Why don't you just ask them? They can only say yes or no. If they say no get
your money back and go elsewhere.

As a last resort you're entitled to your money back. Ask them to
give you exactly what you want - or else...

I would get the money back and look somewhere else.

You mean the one you paid for, and has not been provided. The price
difference is their problem i`d say, in this instance.

Did you pay by credit card ? - if so the credit card company are jointly
liable under the consumer credit act, and a phone call to them might
yield results even if the company you bought from piss you around.

Yup. Clear case for a refund if all else fails.

How about a link to the laptop ? If it's an AMD processor the 2200+ chip
only ran at 1.8GHz.

He give the sort of answer i would, are people really that helpless these
days!
They come onto the group asking for what often amounts to legal advice to
cover a problem between them and a company. Often we don't know the true
and full facts, the company policy or what the company has done. How do
they know the advice given is correct anyway?
There are many organisations out there to help consumers, if they can find
this group they can use a phone book or search engine.
It's almost as bad as people sending the usual, "what's the cheapest phone"
message - they fail to make ANY effort to go and look.
To the people posting about various problems between them and companies -
WHY do you post them. If it's to get a company bad publicity, do you think
one person can achieve that!
Many people are probably happy with companies. Customers on the other hand
can be a pain in the neck. They can be rational people, but also a small
minority that will try and get something for nothing. Either they read what
they want to see, order the wrong thing and moan like hell blaming everyone
else - or they order something and claim it's faulty and demand a refund
when they see a mate has bought the same thing for 50 less in a sale.
We all know the type! The ones that use ARGOS as a try before you buy
service.

To the original poster. What do you expect anyone in this group to do for
you? IF you have a complaint, speak to the company, then take legal advice.

Ask the company, stop asking for an answer to every single question on here!
Go and seek some consumer advice from the many organisations around. they
will happily answer ALL of your questions, but cant tell you what a company
will do - only the company can tell you that.
Is there any reason you have not discussed any of this with the company, it
may affect your case if it goes to court. Why such a delay so far in trying
to resolve the matter?

I am on the edge of my seat - quick, anyone able to predict what he will
need to ask the credit card company and also what they will say?
I'm passing your details to Most Haunted.

Why 'only' ??? That is the correct speed damit! the 2200+ does not
indicate speed but indicates processing performance.

Maybe that was the problem, who knows? But OP did say it was 2.2GHz CPU.

Over rated IMHO, especially the later models when compared to P4c chips.

Maybe OP is an IT newbie and so mistook an AMD 2200+ for 2.2GHz. If they
s/he was to post a link to the laptop and then we'd know.

im reluctant to post a link because the company are being nice at the mo and
i dont want to bad mouth them for no reason

it was quoted as a 2.2ghz

AMD3000+
i forget the exact one but they quoted it as a 2.2 not a 2200+

So what? It's a relative number to compare AMD chips within the same
family. AMD and Intel use different pipeline lengths, hence GHz isn't a
good comparison measure. This frustrated AMD so they introduced a different
performance rating system. Originally AMD claimed that this generally
matched Intel's GHz numbers, but they no longer claim that. Just take
it as an performance label and look up more detailed test for particular
applications if necessary.

Don't think so, apparently the company emailed him to confirm the error.

So 1) did the spec say it was an AMD3000+ ? and 2) Did you get an AMD3000+ ?

If the answer is YES to both questions, then you got what you asked for.

But you evaded my question!!!
1) did the spec say it was an AMD3000+ ? and 2) Did you get an AMD3000+

It may be that it's just a BIOS setting problem.

You're still not answering my simple question. No wonder nobody can help you.

If you got an AMD3000+, then you got the processor performance that you
asked for. The 3000+ indicates the performance, not the GHz number.

There are several variations of AMD3000+ that require different GHz in
the BIOS setting. But as long as it is set up correctly with the correct
GHz, then you got the performance what you asked for. I don't know what
the correct GHz should be, it may depend on a number of things. You could
look it up somewhere.

If the laptop you've got said it comes with an AMD 3000+ and it is running
at 1.8GHz, then it's likely you've got a Sempron 3000+ instead of an Athlon
XP 3000+. See here -
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_11600,00.html

Unless you post a link to the laptop, it is hard to tell for sure.

The place where you bought the laptop from, are they just a reseller ? If
so, how about going to the manufacturers' website and finding out what the
specs. should be.

The OP might be able to run a CPU ID utilities (IIRC there`s one called
CPUID if he googles for it) to get the full processor details

I think you got what you ordered already then. Did you have a look at the
link above ? AMD don't do a sempron 3000+ that runs at 2.2GHz. The mobile
sempron range stop at 2GHz for a sempron 3300+

Post the same question on the uk.legal newsgroup. They're very helpful on the whole.
