What up uklcers?
Hi there, I'm sure you've all been wondering where I've been??? Nowhere
really, is the answer - just since they cut off free access through
that newsindividual.net thingy I just lost track etc etc
Anyways, the uni plan is still on - I'm going to Loughborough to study
Politics, start on the 28th September, quit work on 23rd September.
Didn't go to the US this summer, mainly because I need as much money as
I can get my hands on for uni - which is a shame as I did promise (sort
of) that I'd meet JP in NYC but nevermind
So, just thought I'd say hello - using google groups for this, and from
what I remember the last time I used it, it takes like 6 hours for new
messages to come up etc
Hope you're all well

Well, of course. It's been the hottest topic of conversation around here
since you disappeared.
Not.

I use them now, and pay for the service. It's good. But I can see you need
to conserve the cash at the moment.

She's well worth meeting. Some of us met her when she nipped over here for a
quick hol. You'll like her when you finally get back there!

I've lost my voice. I can't sing. Some, in ignorance of what they'd be
missing, would be glad of this, but I think you've actually heard me sing,
so perhaps you can give an honest opinion as to whether this would be a bad
thing or not. (Careful, now....)

I was at SolFest, but not performing. I was with Friends of the Earth,
helping to recycle masses of bottles and tins and stuff, and running a
stall. We built bike trailers and called ourselves, totally originally, The
ReCyclists, and cycled around the site, picking up glass and cans. It was
bloody hard work, but the whole point was to get free tickets for the
weekend. However, I was too tired to stay on for most of the bands. I did
see the Peatbog Faeries, who were excellent, although the lighting engineer
should be shot. (See previous post about this.)

I will look out for a sexy blonde whenever I go through Loughborough - it is
only about 20 miles north of here. Hope the course goes well - and the uni
social life, of course.

Yeah, it's nice. Steve's family comes from the Nottingham area originally.
I've been there once and want to go back sometime to explore properly. A bit

I always have a problem with the phrase "out of control" when applied to
people. Apart from members of the military I think the rest of us should be
immune from being controlled!

Yeah, 'tis true, I saw the hill at the castle. That looked interesting.
Didn't have time to explore there either. Steve told me to find that famous
pub named after the crusades, but I failed miserably. (I was there bringing

until I realised some kids had got into the castle, some were playing
footy and some had managed to climb up inside the castle and were

Would that be "The Trip To Jerusalem"? It's right below the castle wall.

It was ever thus...
I used to ratch about in Workington Hall as a youth (a bit before your time
and a bit after Edith's). In those days, the hall was more-or-less
complete, but derelict. It still had remnants of the marble staircase in at
the pele-tower end, and hidden rooms and passages, with fire-grates and
plasterwork intact. The bad lads used to nick lead off the roof and steal
pigeons' eggs from their nests.
Everyone had heard about Galloping Harry, and we used to scare the crap out
of each other when exploring the place, expecting to hear the
'bump-bump-bump' as his head rolled down the stair. Towards the mid-1970's,
the hall was stripped out and made into a ruin. A 'secret' staircase was
discovered which led from the great hall at the back down to the cellars
(mistakenly known by generations as 'dungeons'). Some time later, a young
lad was killed after falling from the top of one of the walls and further
ruination work was undertaken, leaving the hall in much the same state as it
is now, but with access supposedly barred.
