Defined By Homebase...
It occurs to me that the Homebase Bargain serves to neatly catergorise the
posters here - in the blue corner, those who viewed the entire episode with
wry amusement, and who would never stoop to taking advantage of a blatant
pricing error, much less threaten to sue the corporate pants off Homebase
for failing to supply a TV/DVD combination for less than 50p!

While, in the red corner, we see the greedy merciless hordes who would
willingly see Homebase collapse into insolvency - as long as they could rub
their hands and gloat over their stupendous bargain!

What's more, as I stand here seething in the red corner, I suddenly realise
that I'm not a very nice person at all - I wanted that telly, and I don't
care how many Homebase stores might have to close in order to pay for my
bargain!#

I blame Thatcherism.....

i dont know which corner i stand in yet, course i'd like to say i like the
TV but o the other hand i dont any part to blame foe shutting them down.

But standing in the middle i dont want them to get away with this, otherwise
everyone will use the same idea to promote one company. Just so one one
uses the same idea..... i think some sort of compensation should be at hand.

Never thought I would get the tele, but a offer of compensation, maybe 20%
off next order or something made me take a punt..

agreed but the fat remaisn i bet they were still laughing at all the british
people who thought they could get something for virtually nothing, whats
more they have probably made a bit of interest on all the ineterst on teh
peeps who paid the price.

Then again it could have all been one big excersise just to get publicity,
as have you seen the state of some homebase stores, absoltely vile and like
something from the 80's.

The people at HQ certainly always thinks they can get something for nothing,
so the punters were just turning the table on them.

No there is another class that I belong to. One that is willing to take a
chance on an error - but understands it is a long shot and does not bitch
and moan when the company catches on.

Miracles do happen. Okay, the 50p one was very long odds but pricing errors
have been honoured in the past. Woollies gamecube, ebuyer camera, cpw
phone, etc.

The quote was from Ulrika Meinhoff (of Baader-Meinhoff fame) she may have
pinched it from Lenin, or one of the other luminaries of Communism.

It's quite accurate if you think about it - for one person to own something
necessarily means that everyone else is deprived of it.

The problems always seem to occur when Communists actually *do* manage to
acquire possessions - all that caring 'n' sharing stuff goes out of the
window, then.

It was Pierre-Joseph Proudhon actually, who was an anarchist.

Re: Defined By Homebase...
lok at it this way, homebase may just say cancell all orders (cheaper this
way) but it would still send out TV to the selected few who insist on the
order.

So to safe hassle homebase will send out the TV's on the condition it tells
that person to kepp the mouth shut.

I'm sitting i the middle, if get it yippee.... if i dont tomorrow is just
another day.

Put that way, I'm deprived of my time going to work for someone so I can
deprive everyone else from owning some particular thing- its a means to an
end- in the same instance I must have given my time against my will, actual
forced labour, for it to be theft.
