Nuclear flask crash
Does anyone know where I might view the 'crash' stunt some 20? years
ago that was,I think, organised to show safe the flasks were? I am not
sure where it was filmed- but someone is bound to know here

It was on the Old Dalby test track in Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire. Very
impressive - I remember it being shown on News at Ten and Alistair Burnett
or Reginald Bousanquet making some quip about "I wonder how they got the
cameraman out".

I've seen it on one of the display stands at the NRM in York. I'm not sure
whether it's available as an MPG on the web anywhere.

The demonstration was held on the Old Dalby test track on 17 July 1984.

There is a very brief animated .gif file of the crash at
http://www.old-dalby.com/crash_animation.htm and still photos at

It's usually showing on a screen in the Warehouse, though I've not been
in there for a year or two.

Try and obtain a copy of the video 'Power Of The Peaks', by Transport
Video Publishing.
Virtually the whole footage of this event is featured within, including
setting the loco off from a standing start, helicopter footage and also
cab footage !!!
