GARDENING
I have a small garden at the front of my house,
and want to landscape it so in is vertually maintainance free.
Any ideas on the best way to do this, any suggestion will be
much obliged.
thanks

Landscape fabric & gravel. Cheap & works a treat.

We removed the lawn, laid the black fabric sold in garden centres and then
spread shingle. Looks good and the only maintenance is to occasionally
(once a year) water it with weedkiller.

We did very similar to this, but I got a bit carried away and removed
about a foot of soil, this may or may not have something to do with us
never having to water it with weedkiller. For plants/variation of
colour we put out tubs with different plants in them these plants are
grown in the back garden, which basicaly only we can acces so it is a
tad overgrown/not as neat as we'd like.

I've just seen a fabric in Homebase with copper impregnated in it to
keep the weeds down. Don't know if it works!

I'm afraid I find the trend to concrete and chips rather sad. Is it really
so hard to look after a bit of garden ?
Even if it is just grass all you have to do is run a hover mower over it 6
times a year and chuck some weedkiller on it in the spring.

IMO gardens are somewhere to sit drinking beer while the food on the BBQ
cooks - not places to spend hours working in.
