Corsa Problems
Hi,
I have a 1995 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Merit petrol. I've been having some
problems with recently.
About a month ago the engine warning light started to come on, took it
to a main dealer who read the codes and these were 13 (Oxygen Sensor,
open circuit) and 35 (Idle Speed Control). After the codes were read
the engine warning light never came back on and thought all was well.
The only symptom over this time was that the engine was slightly lumpy
at idle and noticeable vibration at idle. Possibly slightly increased
fuel consumption and lack of power when accelerating.
On Saturday night car was left at a friends and when collected on Sunday
morning it started ran really lumpy then cut out after about ten
seconds.
Waited five minutes tried to start again and started no problem, ran
fine for rest of the day.
Yesterday morning after sitting outside all night the same scenario.
Engine would crank over but would not start. Called the RAC out to have
a look. They put the fault down to water in the distributer cap, which
was cleaned and dried off and after that it started fine. The RAC
mechanic was concerned at the amount of vibration that the engine was
causing so he checked the timing and the camshaft. The timing was ok
but the camshaft was worn at one of the lifters (think this is what he
called it!) and it would cause the compressions to be out and cause the
engine wobble and sensors to be misreading causing the engine warning
light to come on.
Went out to start the car this morning and same thing. Would not start,
checked the distributer cap for moisture and it is bone dry.
Does anyone have any ideas as to where to start?
Sarah
