Wow, got through to the checkout stage, postage was only 4.95, making it
5.44 in total. All I had to do was put in my credit card details to
complete the order.

Couldn't bring myself to do it though. I'm sure they'll have a clause
somewhere to cancel it anyway.

Same item in argos..... I guess someone has messed up. Why is there an
asterix next to the price.

I am tempted to order this but a) Seriously doubt they would send it
anyways, and b) If they charged me the full price..... well...... I'd be
screwed LOL

That's your mistake - I've only ordered one, on the basis that one might
possibly get through. Ten would be enough to make them check - in fact,
come to think of it, you've probably buggered it up for me, now!

Thanks a bunch.

You mean this clause?:

"While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors
may occur. If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we
will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming
your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to
contact you we will treat the order as cancelled. If you cancel and you have
already paid for the goods, you will receive a full refund. "

" * Please note that this item has not been price reduced."

Does that asterisk mean they can charge us whatever they say the correct
price is?

Have saved the page with price to computer just in case they try to bill
credit card company over 400. LOL Dont expect to get anything here but dont
want to be billed if they arent sending.

No conformation emails so suspect they are on to it already.

Maybe someone has hacked the site and changed the price? Or a disgruntled ex
employee maybe? Its weird but the same Tv doesnt show up in a search on the
Argos site which duplicates it.....

Could this be a scam to get credit card info?

Although i did click on the lock and it said the certificate was registered
to Homebase?

I wont stop worrying until they cancel my order LOL

Ordered!! he he

However, terms and conditions on the site state:

"5.2 Sometimes the product specifications from the manufacturer may change,
in which case we will do our best to offer you a substitute of the same or
better quality at the same price. If you are not happy with the replacement
you can return it in accordance with our 16-day money back guarantee. Where
applicable, you may cancel your order in accordance with your rights under
the Distance selling regulations (see the Returns and refunds page for
further details). "

Hope they don't send and charge for a 300 model instead!

No email confirmations either which usually indicates they will cancel
fairly quickly or are aware there is an error on the site

Nope. They can only charge you what you agreed - which was 49p + delivery.
However, there will be T&Cs saying that they can cancel in event of a
genuine pricing error.

Argos had the same error earlier and finally pulled the offer. Homebase is
Argos Group but I guess they forgot to pull this one. It has been on many
forums and thousands must have been ordered through Argos.

Honouring all the orders is out of the question. The whole board would out
of a job. Better to cancel everyone and take their chances with any small
claims court action.

Indeed. Even if they charge your card they can reverse in instances of
"genuine error". A clause tested and validated through the courts.

Some wag on a another forum phoned up CS and they confirmed the order would
be honoured. All this means is CS will say anything to get a customer off
the phone and no management is going to authorise the sale of thousands of
TVs for 50p each ;-)

You are right in theory. Thousands have already been ordered so it is
unlikely that MPJ has tipped anyone off.

That said - very greedy action. For shame.

*shrug* if they do then order them to collect it. Thousands chanced this

No it means that their auto-processing of credit cards runs business hours.
Ppl ordering from the Argos site earlier today had their cards charged.
They will just reverse it all Tuesday morning when the management get in
from their 3 day weekend.

erm, calm dowm, it was a joke

firstly, it I HAD purchased 10, would I really be telling everyone here?

secondly, where in this NG does it state that we are not permitted to
purchase the maximum number of deals that have been identified in case
someone else doesn't get a chance of the deal?

thirdly, if my actions HAD identified that there was a problem then Homebase
need to tighten up their web ordering procedures?

fourthly, take a chill pill & look again at the last 2 characters of my
original post which I will repeat here ---> :) <---

Got it, Now I'm off to ebay :)

yep that was a joke also

enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend

If the money has been debited from your card as an actual transaction, then
that is acceptance of the order. They have, in actual fact, just ring-fenced
the money. This means that your account will be showing a debit, but the
transaction will not have gone through.

Your all to hopeful. I doubt any at such a price will be honoured. So much
so I'm letting this one pass me by.

I won't be sorry even if a very small amount get honoured as I would not
have been in the running anyway.

If money has been taken off their credit card, then they're in business.

No they are not.
It was discussed in this NG several months ago.
Here is the post:

//////////////////
There you go:
It's an extract from
Internet Newsletter for Lawyers March/April 2002

"It would seem that again it is possible to apply the ratio of a case
based on historical facts to the 21st Century -
The precedent was set by Hartog v Colin and Shields [1939]3 All ER 566
in which there was a pricing error where the seller thought he was
pricing per pound, but the cost was actually calculated per item.
The Court held that the purchaser could not reasonably have supposed
that the offer expressed the real intention of the person making it,
and must have been aware it was a mistake. The purchaser therefore did
not, by his acceptance of the offer, make a binding contract with the
seller.
This would give an online retailer a defence if the price of a product
was so ludicrously low that the intention to create legal relations
could not be formed. "
