New York - Cheap Hotels
Is there such a thing as a decent cheap hotel, within walking distance of
the major attractions in New York? By cheap I mean < 50 per night for the
room in Jan/Feb 2006 - staying over the weekend.

A quick google search, and all the cheap hotels are miles from anywhere.

Thanks
Martin

Might be worth checking out Holiday Inn and see if they have any deals. I
know they have a few hotels in and around "Manhatton"

www.hoteldiscounts.com have a couple within 15 blocks or so of downtown for
under 50 a night on January weekends.

Re: New York - Cheap Hotels
Lots of alternatives at less than 70ukp per night - 50ukp might be pushing
it. I have stayed at the New Yorker and Thirty Thirty, both in mid-town
Manhattan, within walking distance of most of the main attractions,
especially the Empire State, etc. No frills on either, but good value
accomodation. I would recommend mid-town (rather than the more expensive
hotels nearer the park) as it's far more centrally-located, and somewhat
cheaper!

Re: New York - Cheap Hotels
You could take a look at the New York section on www.tripadvisor.com. They
have a list of all hotels and approx price. There is also a forum normally
filled with locals so if you ask there they should be able to give you a
good idea of where to stay. I've used it before and they have all been
helpful.

Re: New York - Cheap Hotels
Check the Ramada on Lexington Avenue. We stayed there last year, and it
was great - decent room at a decent price (117$ per night, but this was
June) - even included bagels and coffee for breakfast!

I can recommend the Belvedere Hotel http://hotelbelvederenewyork.com/
As a single traveller I got a great price from them for my stay in NY

Maybe, but the OP really should look closely at Tripadvisor first as someone
else recommended. He might even come across my review of the Belvedere, based
on two rooms for a week, in which I argue that it's perfectly OK but not at
all special.

Re: New York - Cheap Hotels
The Comfort Inn Long Island city is $108 per night and is pretty close to a
large metro station
