Harumph. So much for this one. I booked three journeys through this offer,
and got a confirmation e-mail from them to say it had all gone through. My
first journey was supposed to be today, so I rang them yesterday to find out
why my tickets hadn't arrived. Turns out that their crappy computerised
bookings system had cocked up when applying the discounts to my journeys -
rather than taking 50% off each one individually, it had taken 100% off one
journey, about 25% off the second and nothing off the third in order to
achieve an overall 50% discount off the total spend. (The amount that's been
taken from my credit card is exactly half of what those three journeys would
have cost me in full.)

That sounds OK in principle - but it transpires that the journey which had
had the 100% discount applied had then been flagged up on the system as not
having been paid for - so they didn't send out any tickets. After getting
nowhere for fifteen minutes with some clueless numpty in a call centre in
Mumbai, I finally managed to get someone from a UK office on the phone -
what he was finally able to tell me is that because the system thinks that
the ticket hadn't been paid for they consider it to not be booked, despite
me having an e-mail to confirm that it has. They wouldn't let me rebook it
at the offer price, nor would they correct the "system error" (his words,
not mine) and make arrangements for me to collect the ticket at the station.
So now I'm paying 75% of full price for journey 2, full price for journey 3,
and will have to pay full price for journey 1 when I buy my ticket at the
station tomorrow. First Scotrail - what a bunch of ****s.

They have done this a lot. Check out the discussion in uk.railway on the
subject.

I managed to argue my way into collecting my 50% tickets at the station,
which I did yesterday. Many others have too. I shouldn't need to argue
though.
