OT Concrete mixer lorry hire?
Hi
Sorry for being OT but does anyone know if it's possible to hire a concrete
mixer lorry in Lincs or Notts, please? And, if so, where can I hire one
from? Thanks.

I'm assuming it's actually ready mix concrete your looking for and not just
an empty lorry?

No, I need an empty lorry to do our own mix of LECA/Lime/Sand on site. I'm
guessing I'll need a driver, too, as it will be an HGV. Thanks.

I think Hanson drivers are all owner-drivers .... at least they used to
be before Hanson bought ARC premix. You might find someone who is after
private work that way.

Loading a concrete mixer is'nt easy.
They are normally filled from a tall loader through the funnel structure
that you see at the top of the rear of the vehicle. It would probably be
difficult to fill it any other way.
The other thing to remeber is that mixers are heavy. at least 10 tonnes
unladen. They often get stuck onsite and need a tow off from another site
vehicle. obviously if your site is flat this wont be a problem.
Wouldn't one of those rotating mixer things that you just shovel the stuff
into do? Such as http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=050210135
**NB** I know little of building sites, I just once had a job repairing
mixers. Please bear that in mind.

I know there are *some* that have a hopper that can be filled manually but I
don't know where to find one :o(

This won't be a problem. I have a flat concreted yard.

That's my only other option but I have a *lot* to mix. I'll probably need
to have about 6 on the go!!

Have you costed the readymix/pumped concrete alternative? Savings on
labour, time etc.

It may be flat _before_ the mixer has driven over it ...

You can get big diesel mixers as well as the little petrol/electric ones
- a couple of them will keep three or four people busy loading and
barrowing.

Each load needs a minimum 15 minutes mixing, though.
