GNER diversionary routes
Can anyone enlighten me as to which diversionary routes GNER drivers
sign? Is there any others apart from Hertford loop?

Some must be signed for a diversionary route round Retford as they're
doing that occasionally on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings.

I don't know the route, but Newark-Boultham-Pyewipe
Junction-Gainsborough-Doncaster would be a good guess.

I wonder how they retain their knowledge on this sort of route, does
not signing a route have some sort of shelf-life.

They don't do Werrington Jcn - Pyewipe Jcn, but they _do_ do Newark NG
- Boultham Jcn - Pyewipe Jcn - Decoy N Jcn.

To answer Allan Tracy's question, they seem to come out road
learning/reviewing before any diversions, using an EWS 67.

The guards get to ride our dogboxes instead...

Which rather begs the question....

When the ECML is closed between Werrington Jct & Newark NG is the
Werrington-Lincoln diversion still used?
Or would ECML traffic begin, and end, at Peterborough & Newark - using
buses between?

The last down service from KGS to LDS *was*[1] always booked via the
Hertford loop for this reason.

[1] - I haven't had to take that service or been lucky enough to been at
one of the loop stations at that time of night for a while now. There
also used to be a bit more fright activity on the loop after about 23:00.

The loop dose add about 20/25mins to a trip though. IIRC the max speed
is something like 75 (Enfield Chase) and there is a couple of *very*
long blocks once you get north and into Cuffley land...

Given that Spalding - Sleaford is single shift (roughly 0900 - 1700
Mon-Sat), and nobody seems interested in opening the line beyond those
hours, I suspect that it would be buses between Peterborough and
Newark rather than diversions.
