Anyone recommend a new tariff? Orange charging 3/month for non-DD payments, I'm off!
Having paid last months bill and noticed it was about 3 more
expensive I actually took the trouble of reading this months bill and
it appears Orange are charging 3/month for the 'privilege' of not
paying by direct debit.
Are there any other providers imposing this fine on non-DD payments?
I'm currently on OVP Videocall 500 from '3' so I get 500 minutes a
month (which I have never managed to use up) and no free texts (which
I don't use anyway) all for 25 (or 28 now).
I probably only require 300 minutes a month and have no great interest
in text messages.
Anyone recommend an unpenalised provider?
Regards,
Jason.

Further to this it appears that most providers either charge, or
'reserve the right' to charge for non-DD payment. Vodafone and O2
don't even specify how much this fee is in their terms and conditions
(presumably so they can charge whatever they please).
Anyone currently with a company which doesn't charge for non-DD
payments. I've tried pushing the point with Orange and their retort
was that I should have been paying an extra 3 for months and I'm
'lucky' I wasn't paying it sooner...

Jason.

Most companies do it nowadays, although I think they sell it the other
way around in that you are *getting* a 3 discount for paying by DD!
I think the argument is twofold in that they can plan ahead for the
amounts coming in and also that there is less admin work needed to
cover the payment as it's mostly automatic once it is set-up.

Orange rang me the other day and said they were knocker a fiver off my bill
every month. They also said I could have a pack for free for the next 6
months. So I now get 30 free photo messages a month

Re: Anyone recommend a new tariff? Orange charging 3/month for non-DD payments, I'm off!
I just started a new 12months with orange. I do pay dd, but as part of the
upgrade I got the nokia 6630 for free and my account creditted by 50 to pay
for some data traffic over the year as they couldnt add the data bundle to
my plan as I'm on the Select 500 which sounds the same as what you have.
This is a change as when I called to upgrade I was told the phone would be
30 or more and that I was on the best deal they could offer anyway, so by
going to disconnections I improved my new deal by over 80. So, if you are
out of contract then call up and tell them you dont want to change, but
unless they give you what you want you will.
Hope this helps

Re: Anyone recommend a new tariff? Orange charging 3/month for non-DD payments, I'm off!
I might try the disconnections people, last time I went through them
because I was going to leave and go over to '3' to get the Videotalk
500 tariff. They said if I bought a new phone and signed up for
another year they would match Videotalk 500, even though at the time
they didn't OVP on '3' tariffs.
Just been looking at the SVP C550, might even be worth going for an
upgrade *if* I managed to persuade them to waive the 3/month.
Regards,
Jason.

Re: Anyone recommend a new tariff? Orange charging 3/month for non-DD payments, I'm off!
Further to my original post, it appears if you pay your bill at an
Orange shop (fortunately I have one very locally) they will refund the
3 non-DD payment. In a typical Orange arse-elbow manoeuvre they will
apparently bill you for the whole amount and then refund you 3, so if
you're paying by card it'll cost them heartily in transaction charges.
So I'll be paying at the shop shortly and at the end of September
upgrade to a new SPV C550, or maybe the M500... Hrmm...
Regards,
Jason.
