Whatever happened to The Bullied Pacific 35011 General Steam
Navigation.

According to http://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/bulleidpacifics.html

It seem to have been "lost" along with 35009 Shaw Savill and 35010 Blue
Star.

Don't know where they are now, but 35010 originally went to North
Woolwich in 1985, whereas 35009/11 ended up at Brighton in 1989.
(Source: Barry List 8th edition.) Fairly sure 35010 is not at NW now -
certainly no trace of anything like that the last time I was there.

Last time I looked 35010 was at Colne Valley Railway at Castle Hedingham
- see http://cvrps.users.btopenworld.com/index2.htm

Somewhere I think I may have a picture of it. If I do, and if I can find
it, it will be posted later on abpr

The Brighton Bulleids remained there for some years. IIRC I saw them
there in 1993 and again several years later.

Which reminds me of one of those unresolved life mysteries. There were
those of us schoolboys who, though not equipped with all the Ian Allan
books, still took an interest in the steam engines that passed through
Wimbledon. It seemed to be the case that, though most of the other
Merchant Navy class engines used to be seen from time to time, I don't
think anyone actually saw 35001 Channel Packet. Does anyone know where
it was hiding round about 1958-61?

Hi Andy

An interesting but way OT reply. I've taken the liberty of editing your
text to start a new topic under the heading "New locos or Old".

Thanks for the info. 35011 seen to be the one that hasn't seen public
gaze for some time. Has anyone got ant photographs of it at its present
location?

In the light of what was posted on another thread (re: building a
replica standard 2-6-2T) about smaller steam locos being more in demand
than pacifics, I wonder how people would react to the suggestion that
there are just too many Merchant Navies preserved. Of course, if
someone has the money and motivation to buy one and restore it and
maintain it, that's their business and I've got no problem with that.
But how upset would people be if the class was culled from 11 preserved
examples (more than a third of the number constructed) to, say, four
or five?

My 1959 Locoshed book tells me it was allocated to 73A (Stewarts Lane).
So it must have simply been naturally illusive.
