Cheap travel insurance for over 80s
I would like to know if there are any deals at the moment for cheap travel
insurance for someone that is 84 years old.
My grandmother is going to Spain to visit my mother who has recently moved
over there for 10 days in a few weeks time and I said I would look into
finding her the cheapest travel insurance I can find for her. As I said she
will be staying with my mother so I do not think any extra cover for
anything in particular is required.

Insurance Companies don't like that sort of risk and it will be very
expensive. If she has an E111 she does, of course, have some medical cover.

Just been looking into renewing my mothers insurance, LLoyds TSB have just
upped yearly premium from 109 ( age up to 74) to 210 !!!!
First of all, Make sure your gran has an E111.
I know nothing about single trip policies, however. American express will
issue a worldwide annual travel policy ( with no upper age limit) for about
150 if you are a cardholder.
Which is a very good deal for an annual multi trip.

Were you asking me?? ;-) No, you don't (afaik) have to pay using amex
Amex conditions with the blue card, are that you must either spend 500 in a
year or alternatively pay a 15 fee. I have been assured there is no upper
age limit for travel ins.
BTW the AA will insure on an annual policy up to the age of 79.

Not sure about cheapness, but this firm http://www.clubdirect.com/ seems to
specialise in travel insurance for the elderly.

This is about £50 more than I would pay for both my wife and I if I was
after multi trip

Re: Cheap travel insurance for over 80s
I know that these companies work on the basis of risk but I find it very
very sad that they up the premiums so high for people over a certain age.
Probably when many of them have no income and can least afford this.
I am quite a long way below that age, however find it very sad how we treat
the elderly.... Am I alone here?

Its also around 50 more than we pay. However when you get to the age of 75
and still wish to travel to exotic places, with the option of staying for
longer than 30 days , affordable annual travel insurance is not that easy to
find.

Try Age Concern. They were the cheapest for my 77 year old mum's trip to
Prague. The man said Spain's dearer though. Didn't ask why, I'm afraid.
