Hardly a bargain, though.

Can't speak about the Lager as I don't drink it, but Strongbow around
here is about 1.90-1.95/pint, one of those barrels delivered works
out at 1.81/pint. Down in London I'm in no doubt that the price of a
pint is probably a bit higher as well.
Plus, if you went for the second barrel as well you're then down to
1.47/pint, and seeing as how the party is *huge* I'm sure they need
more than one and may even get a bulk discount if they ask.
So compared to pub prices there is a little bit of a bargain!
Granted you could go down to Bargain Booze and buy a shed load of
cans, probably work out about 0.60/pint that way, but that isn't what
the OP asked for!

Might be worth asking local pubs if they would do you a keg. Or try an
independant brewery.

Thanks for the link, I'm surprised how expensive a keg is. Might need to
take a booze cruise to calais.

Out of interest ho much do you save on say each crate of lager or
cider over there, compared to here??
Bargain Booze does crates of Strongbow/Scrumpy Jack for around the
13.50 mark, I think most of the standard lagers are about the same
and the 'premium' lagers go for around 16.50/crate.
Obviously if you already live down near Folkestone it wouldn't be such
a big problem to nip over if there are savings to be had!

Gawd that's expensive...
Try asking a local real ale pub, last party we had a 72 pint barrel
was 60 for the local pub, and they dropped it bright so it would not
hae to be left to settle when we got it home...

Depends where you are, but there are loads of small breweries out there who
will supply very tasty, reasonably priced beer by the barrel (if you're
anywhere near Wakefield, Fernandes brewery is highly recommended!). Your
local branch of CAMRA www.camra.org.uk might be able to help.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will look at them all. My friend is based
in Brighton, that's where the party will be.
