Gerrards Cross route reopens a day early
Because of signal problems at Amersham, from the NR site:

07:15 All Chiltern Railways services will be diverted and run via Gerrards
Cross. Diverted trains will call at High Wycombe, Gerrards Cross,
Beaconsfield and Denham. Services between London Marylebone and Birmingham
will also go via Gerrards Cross.

Update - the problem at Amersham (lightning strike putting out the signals)
has been fixed, and trains have reverted to the temporary timetable. How
many passenger traius actually went through GX?

So the Aylesbury-Marylebone trains are diverted through Risborough and
Wycombe - the exact opposite of the Birmingham-Marylebone trains for the
past few weeks. What delightful symmetry!

Having sent trains through GX, why would they revert to the temporary
timetable again if the intention is to use the normal timetable only 24
hoyrs later? Were trains going through GX tunnel at normal speed or were
they working through it under special rules, perhaps because there was still
signalling and or track work remaining to be completed? If it's the latter,
I can see that National Rail might need more time to put the finishing
touches to their work before the tunnel is truly open for business.

Principally becasue that is what had been advertised to the public as the
train service today. Disrupting that to try and revert ot a "normal" service
with no notice would have been just as bad to the passenger as any other
sort of disruption.

Also it would have been very difficult to change stock and driver movements
in the middle of a day without again causing further disruption and
unreliability to the service.
