Last Southern Slammer
I haven't seen this mentioned on here much recently so for the benefit
of those who don't know, tomorrow (Friday 19th August) is the last day
of scheduled slam door operation on Southern. I believe the last train
ex London will be the 1717 ex Victoria to Eastbourne/Seaford. One unit
will then perform a couple of Seaford - Lewes return services before
finishing up at Brighton sometime after 2000.

I believe the formation will be 4 CIG / 4 VEP / 4 VEP. Anyone know what
way round this will be (and so which units will finish at Eastbourne)?

And of course, is anyone from the group going? A few of us are nipping
out of work early to cover this working, followed by a pub crawl of
Eastbourne. Zimmer frames not essential! ;)

Cheers,

Steve M

I did this on Monday and the front 4 coaches went to Seaford, rear 8
Eastbourne (You probably already knew that!), however all units were
VEPs.

The Seaford portion went back to Lewes and then worked to Seaford
again, photo here:

Giving the BBC a chance to finally use their picture in the correct
context :)

It says in the article that South-Eastern will have some of the old stock
running until September - does anyone know which North Kent services these
are on, and when they finish?

The only regular one I've seen recently is the one that travels through the
Medway towns and arrives at 0854 at Cannon Street.

Cheers

The following web page has full details (though without finishing
dates):

Except (unless I'm very much mistaken) it's a SWT VEP on the Reading
via Richmond route...

....but they don't claim otherwise, so I don't mind. ;-)

(That said I never minded when they used it to illustrate any train
story. Didn't it even crop up on Have I Got News For You?)
