Midland Mainline 9-car Meridians
Now that the 9-car Meridian has been in service for a few weeks (06xx
Nottingham-London etc), has anybody been on them and what do you think
of them? How long is this one set meant to be in service for and does
anyone know of the longer them plans for the other sets sitting idle?

There was a plan to introduce some more 9-car sets to replace some
HST's, but i'm not sure if this is still going ahead. Hope not, I quite
like the HST's on the Midland Mainline!

Never tried the Meridian, but an underfloor unit can never surpass a
train with power at one or two ends.

Never been on one, but I suspect they'll be exactly the same as the
4-car ones but just over twice as long.

IMO, this will make them very nice units, with the exception of the
buffet area which has the look and "feel" of a dodgy back-street kebab
van at 4 in the morning.

According to staff at St Pancras earlier this week (when I was chatting
with them about that morning's "fire" on the 9-car set) they will all be
in use fairly soon, displacing many of the HSTs.

My only gripe is that, unlike the 4 car sets, there'll be no
declassification of the 1st accomodation in the shared coach. They're
lovely seats.

Well, I don't know about that, but for long distance journeys a larger
buffet area is advantagous.
