Holiday Discounts
Hello all,

I'm finding it impossible to find a holiday with a good discount. (Summer
2006)

Prev years Travel Agents offered Brochure discounts but now they offer from
5% to 25% on certain hard to find holidays that probably don't exist.

Anyone spotted any good discounts?

Cheers

Have you considered putting your own package together?

I'm afraid I'm too lazy and prefer to visit the local agents and book
everything face2face though I am thinking of looking into this.

Which country are you going to? Once flights have been booked hotels are
fairly simple to organise and reserve. Most European hotels just need a CC
to confirm reservations, you don't pay till arrival.

Decide where, when and how you want to travel. Go to the Teletext
holiday pages and take down the phone numbers of the travel companies
who are advertising your preferred destination (preferably the 0800
numbers). Call them and negotiate. Play them off against each other and
you should have an excellent deal with an hour.

I do this regularly and always save a fortune. My next holiday in
September was 900GBP each in the travel agents but, I got it for 459GBP
each including Taxi transfers by ringing around. Same flights, same
hotel!

Don't take on-line offers at face value. I always use the telephone and
speak to people. Holiday Finders and Teletext Holidays are just 2 of the
companies that can be beaten down on the phone.

Ask them to drop the fee and pay by credit card for a bit of extra
protection as well. Most companies will drop the credit card fee to get
the booking.
