Portsmouth Direct freight
A discussion took place on this group back in April about freight workings
over the Portsmouth Direct line. Regular traffic finished between Shalford
Jn & Havant in 1969 but as 66030 has worked the Holybourne tanks via this
route today perhaps it's time for an update:-

MWF 6Y30 07.53 Fawley CAD - Holybourne (12.20) > via Havant, Farnham
10.42-11.25, Alton 11.40-12.12.
MWF 6Y31 14.24 Holybourne - Eastleigh Yd (17.07) > Havant 15.34-16.19,
Fareham
16.39-48.

Not sure if this is a permanent re-routing or not but last week they were
still going via Basingstoke, with 66033 doing the honours on Wed 10/8 &
again on Fri 12/8. Unknown what happened Monday 15/8. Going via Havant
eliminates the reversal at Woking so maybe a bit of logic has been applied
at last...

Routing seems a bit 'hit and miss', as the loaded train returned
via Havent last Friday - perhaps not all Eastleigh drivers sign
the Petersfield road yet?

AFAIK, the train no longer runs on a Monday.

The afternoon train was via the Portsmouth Direct again yesterday afternoon
(Fri 19/8). Down through Haslemere at 1527, so a little behind the schedule
listed, but I gather there were signalling problems at Alton earlier in the
day.
